Not sure about my mom, but my dad likes Muk (I mentioned that in the other thread about unpopular favorites). He also really likes the Rainbow fat Pikachu card.
The top card my parents own is a PSA 8 1st Ed Base Charizard. Their top sealed product is a 1st Ed Fossil Box.
Other than the cookie cutter unsupportive-turned-optimistic-due-to-value thingy I can’t think of any reactions worth mentioning from the few people in my family.
Don’t really talk about it with most of my friends, once in a blue moon when they get curious about values. My Pokemon hobby is very old news to all of them, they would never disapprove and their general lack of interest in it is only matched by my lack of interest in sharing it with them.
Most of my friends like Pokemon and play the games but I’m the only one that collects cards. I’ve been giving my wife cards once in a while to see if I could get her from liking only the games/anime to liking the cards as well. I don’t think she’ll really like the cards until the actual card game gets it’s own form of commander like MTG (which she’s really into).
A couple friends are into it, or have even gotten back into collecting because I talk about it. But most people I know don’t even think about this kids card game at all lol.
My wife refuses to buy me pokemon cards. I stopped telling her how much cards were worth because she kept saying things like, “Oh that’ll pay for our next vacation.”
My sister used to like Pokemon as a kid but she was never as a big fan as me and never really followed with the hobby. She didn’t take collecting very seriously either, the very small collection she had ended up on my hands. Though I’m really happy about the fact that she now watches old Pokemon episodes on Netflix with her daughters so that’s very nice (a 4 year old and 1 year old).
My parents don’t mind at all as well and I was never told to get rid of my cards growing up or anything. Other people in my family? Idk, nobody really visits me but sometimes I feel like I’m being secretly judged. And I don’t really have friends irl. I have one friend who visits me maybe twice a year. She likes Pokemon too but isn’t too up to date with the latest generations and hasn’t been collecting cards since like the BW era I think. But she still has her collection she made up to that point and never sold stuff. Plus she has a lot of Pokemon Center stuff she bought while she was an exchange student in Japan. And she was playing Pokemon Shield so that’s something.
At work there are 2 people who play Pokemon Go but they don’t actually know about Pokemon. They are about 20 years older than me. So we talk about the game and share gifts but apart from that I haven’t opened up about collecting or anything. Especially because I know that one of them would definitely see it as a waste of money, lol.
Actually speaking of, I just opened a vivid voltage booster box a couple of days ago while my two older sisters were around. When I pulled the holo snorlax I was like “THIS IS SO CUTE” (which it is, i mean have you seen it?) so I showed it to one of my sisters. She thought the artwork was super cute and said “I could use this as a bookmark!”. So I got a sleeve and she sleeved it up. Then I pulled a bea full art also and was like “Ohhh cool!” and i gave it to my other sister. At first she was like… “Uhh nah…” but then after looking at it for a while and appreciating the art (we both like studio ghibli films and FA trainers can have that vibe) she said “I really like this” so I gave her a sleeve and she sleeved it up. So now both of my sisters have pokemon cards for the first time ever.
