I get what you mean… The only exception, to me anyway, is 1st ed base because the cards clearly have different coloring, font, etc. It has it’s own identity… Especially w/ the thick stamp.
1st Edition = (usually) more rare/exclusive.
More rare/exclusive = more desirable to collectors
It’s as simple as that, really. It’s not at all similar to buying something just for the brand name. Collecting is not only about aesthetic value.
T17 ruined everything ![]()
(I’m just kidding lol)
I guess this would qualify as an unpopular opinion. Any true Pokémon fan would realize the importance of Poliwrath.
PSA is run by Aliens and I have proof
I think that PlastX is overrated
*gasp*
EDIT: I would clutch my pearls if I had some.
Guess you like dem scratches.
It’s ok to own cards graded by companies other than PSA
How DARE YOU imply that it is ok to own a card rather than a card in a high grade!
Either Aliens or dimwits.
I don’t like base set. Art was too bland for my taste which I know is highly unpopular so please don’t cart me to death for it.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with ‘boring’ animal-like Pokemon designs like Seel and Dewgong (a slightly bigger Seel with a horn). At least they make sense from a biological perspective, meaning they have a mouth and sensory organs and can live without any supernatural ghost possessing them, and they can move without defying the laws of physics (there are WAY too many hovering Pokemon).
I take that over the damn ice cream cone Pokemon any day.

Mr Mime is one of my 3 favorite pokemon ever. This has become slightly less ‘unpopular’ thanks to Detective Pikachu, but I am a day 1 Mr Mime fan!

(assuming Video Game stuff counts) I don’t think Legendary/Mythical pokemon should be obtainable via catching or events. I think they should be an important part of the story. Maybe you do some thing to help them or they help you or whatever, then y’all respectively battle, they give a smile and a wink and you get your dex entry so you always remember that fateful encounter. You cant call a pokemon ‘Legendary’ or ‘Mythical’ if literally any 10 year old can capture and enslave them. Aside from that lore perspective, they also make competitive play super lame
What is the biology of Geodude? And how does he float? Found it baffling for 20 years.
yeah, never understood that one either. Especially since his evolutions forgot how to fly apparently. If it wasn’t Gen 1, I probably wouldn’t like it.
@brofessorchaos, Mr. Mime looks like a potential child predator.
@muk, thats exactly my point lol. thats the response a Mime fan always gets. I totally get it tho I acknowledge its a weird pick. Frankly, and pokemon that are basically just humanoids and/or wear clothes etc are weird picks but i think most of us like at least some of them. Meanwhile Mr Mime stepped in on Ms Ketchum, crushing Oaks dreams.

Hahaha fair enough.

Same, I enjoy the cards for their value and significance but not a big fan of the art. It feels like vintage 5ban - the same artwork style on every single card (the old Arita and Sugimori artworks were significantly better than 5ban anyways
)
Japanese cards are lame ![]()
