Hmm if I had to try and put it to words it’s probably because he has the best mix of detail in his design (compared to Bulasaur) and evolution progression without looking goofy. I generally just think that the tree on Venusaur looks completely silly. He looks like more aggressive and grown up Bulbasaur
Plus he has some awesome representation in the tcg
Not sure if this is unpopular or not but Rainbow Rares are the worst rarity to ever be created for the Pokemon TCG. They completely wash out all the distinct features of the character they represent. I seriously can’t wait for them to be replaced.
On the other hand the recent alternative arts have been straight
Rainbows are the worst thing to happen to cards. As a one-off, perhaps they could have benefited from the novelty, but holy crap.
Who wouldn’t love to see their favorite Pokémon in a lame pose (you’ve seen before) with the same ugly rainbow colors as a million other cards. I actually can’t believe the concept hasn’t been thrown to the wayside. #rainbow-no-mo’
I do like the rainbows, the swsh ones are improved from the sm ones
But they really have gone on for too long. I think they would also be more meaningful if they limited them to one per set similar to the shiny pokemon gold cards. They really are unspectacular when EVERY full art for like the last 20 sets also has a rainbow variant
100% - give me alternate arts all day long since they’re inherently unique. But the exact same art of the FA with a rainbow overlay? Unique once, but it’s time for a change.
Not sure how unpopular this is, but I think the artistic choices made with the megas are great. People say they’re cluttered etc, but I think it’s just because it’s one of those aesthetic things that change over time, and I believe they’ll be more appreciated later on. The Japanese text reminds me a little bit of vaporwave and sukajan jackets.
Basically I’m saying efour’s average member is too old to fully appreciate them hehe.
I have no idea what they were supposed to do, or what the point of them was, but they looked pretty cool and got thrown by the wayside before really getting a chance to shine.
If only a few sets had them or if each set only had 1-2 instead of 10 it would be so much better. They don’t feel special when there are about 150-200 unique rainbow rares and counting. Imagine if there were 200 different gold stars.
This is what I like about the gold shinies. They have prominent art, are quite shiny, and are quite difficult to pull considering the flood of rainbow rares that you might pull instead. These gold shinies are a very nice thing about the swsh era that s&m didn’t really have.
Hopefully this doesn’t get me banned from @smpratte’s Patreon, but I’ve hated Komiya art since I was like 8 years old (am 27 now). I was an otherwise pretty sharp kid, but it took me an embarrassingly long time to realize that his style was intentional and not just, like, bad art hahaha. Now that I’m older, I appreciate the impressionism a little more, but I still much prefer more traditional artwork. Huge fan of sowsow, though, so maybe that earns me some brownie points. Also love sui and kawayoo.
