What are your Pet Peeves in Pokemon?

This one confuses me since i’ve had so many occasions where the card has partly slipped out of the toploader when the seller hasn’t used tape to shut it. I always tape my toploaders but i put a piece of paper under the tape so the card doesn’t have any chance to stick in the tape, i don’t undertand why people find it annoying

My preferred way of shipping is with team bags, it is way less hassle to open it once you receive it. I have got packages from Japan which had a really nice way of using where one part was folded over and could not be taped. That was sort of a pull tab. If the tape is used like that I would be fine with it.

People using “highest grossing media franchise” in their investment lingo. It’s irrelevant info to tie back into the TCG.

There are millions of people who buy Pokémon video games and plushies but have no interest in the TCG. Likewise there are massive brands like Star Wars and Harry Potter that launched unsuccessful TCGs. There are so many valid reasons to be optimistic for the long term future of Pokemon. Focusing on franchise size discredits all the work that goes into the TCG to ensure its longevity.

I’ve been getting real sick of excessive emoji use in business settings + awful grammar.

Something like this irks me and will result in an instablock.

Bro  i saw your card  and thought that id send you my offer. $690.69 :money_mouth_face: :moneybag: take it or leave it. :weary: your stupid to say no. :facepunch: :fire: :pinched_fingers:

There is something particularly off-putting about these two emojis but the king of annoying emojis must be the one with the tongue sticking out to the side.

15 years and I have yet to meet anyone irl that does this to gesture anything in any context.

i’m so old what does this mean? Fire punch the precious jewels?

Honestly, I have no clue. Maybe they’re supposed to make you look cool? Someone younger might be able to translate.

Fist bump, hot/on fire (positive connotation), chef’s kiss (also positive connotation)

…yeah, it’s just a series of emojis to make them seem more cool or sociable. It’s pretty common to have a bunch of emojis like those to mean excitement or overall positivity, but it’s also not professional at all.

cut a piece of paper and cover the opening instead then scotch that down

thats what they should do instead

Should probably read more like;

“my biggest pet peeve is people not respecting all pokemon fans.” *stops talking

If it’s not that, they use the other equally pedantic argument: “The card looks like it has been drawn by me like 20 years ago when I was a child” … or “A child draw better than this”
That happened to me when I shared an image of Masaki Omastar.

About 5ban … it’s not my favourite artist, they have some of the most soulless cards from Pokémon, but at the same time they have really cool cards … the Pikachu you have is awesome.

Calling out PokeRev lol.

I know he’s the biggest PokeTuber but I am not convinced it’s anything more than a job for him. The interview he did with okJluv was revealing.

How passionate can one be without seemingly ever bothering to look at the illustrator names in 25 years?

And unfortunately that mindset you describe is basically all over his channel and others copy it and that’s why this hobby is still filled with people looking to make a quick buck - and failing because they don’t delve beyond the superficial.

I agree it’s mostly just a job for him, my take is that his content just isn’t for the kind of people who would come somewhere like here.
I think he does have passion for the hobby, but mostly from a business perspective. He did try other content creation prior to Pokémon from what I recall.

I think most of the creators are disingenuous anyway, to give an example I’d say twicebakedjake acts like it’s just a hobby for him but it’s clearly about value - that’s fine, but be transparent your primary motive is value.

I also have no idea why people donate/gift items to these creators with collections worth in the thousands, tens of thousands or even more - they don’t need it, they don’t appreciate it as much as you think.

Yeah, even though I don’t have much interest in playing the TCG, I like creators who do get involved. There’s an added dimension when they go through the cards. Guys like Neon Cactus and ptcgradio.

Granted those guys also appreciate the art.

I guess the biggest thing is just being true to who you are. Players don’t need to fake interest in art, investors don’t need to fake interest in art or playing. But then, what does it say about the rest of the hobby when Rev, Leonhart are the most subscribed?

It wasn’t directly aimed at him nor do I have personal issues. It’s a bit complex because I hate the trend, but the trend starts somewhere. Some are genuine, some aren’t. Some feel somewhat predatory, some don’t. I just think it’s a shame that monetary value is king, while we back in the day you were already in awe of because of the rarity. Trade, collect, play instead of invest should be the way for the young ones. Let children be children.

Once you’re financially stable and you’re mentally a bit more mature, you can still invest however you like to.

We are at the point where everyone hates it until it gets expensive basically how human psychology works and they rather burn more money and than get it when it was affordable and “worthless”.

SV pullrate changes on the english side are weeding a bunch of people out cause of this cheap chases

For a recommendation I really enjoyed rubyretro doing a look at the vintage meta, if only because I was actively playing with friends back then but not at a league and with no idea what the established meta was.

I agree, it’s about honestly - I don’t care what people’s intentions are with their money as long as it isn’t at the expense of others, and it’s fine to be in the hobby solely for profit but be honest about your motives.

My motives, for example, are that I’ve always been a collector.
I want to have cards I like and I’m generally too lazy to sell, and that’s just me.

We all have different motivations and people who’ve made a living from this hobby, more power to them.
You notice nobody drags the likes of smpratte and tca gaming because they clearly love the hobby, are passionate about it and really enjoy it but are also transparent about it being a livelihood and a method of income.

I am actually the opposite. I hate the card until it is cheap. Such as the Yokohama Pikachu FA card. I hate it at $200 raw, but would absolutely adore that card at $100.

I would get the pika too if it were to drop around $100 tbh
