Any specific sets you’re starting with? Welcome aboard!
Yeah basically I wanted to start collecting cause I wanted to buy my best friend some booster boxes. We have a strong history of openings together through different games, especially magic, but he started to collect Pokemon couple years ago. I live in Thailand and come back in France every once in a while, so I bought some boxes, but it wasnt there on time and they arrived while I was in Thailand ^^ so after a year, I’ve never opened it and decided to keep is sealed. So I started to check a lot of stuff about opening, sealed products etc… and here Im, with only couple boxes waiting for me in France. And I got addict & passioned again so now I’m looking to poursue in that direction Basically I got 2 boxes of paldea evolved, and that’s all…
i’m going back in France for Christmas, and with all that, I really want to buy some products to keep, but also looking for nice things to open with my best friend I was thinking about Surging sparks box cause I love some of the designs, and it could be a great way to start opening & collecting things. But honeslty, I don’t know how to start. Not even what I really want with collecting. But I love Pokemon, love oppening, and that’s a begining haha.
Welcome, Marc! Glad to have you here, and I hope you enjoy starting up your collecting journey again.
Thanks Glad to be here. I don’t really know where to start but I’m happy trying to reach back to my old pokemon fan spirit

Welcome @Whis_Cash! Glad to see you’ve come out of the shadows! Do you have any favorite artists? It’s always nice to see someone who appreciates the “regular” cards in addition to the wonderful art rares we’re being spoiled with!
Welcome, @Godzichevre! Booster boxes can be a ton of fun (especially with friends!), so I don’t blame you for getting pulled in! Haha, I think many of the recent SV sets can be a fun open, but if you’re ever looking to do anything a little different, I would recommend a Japanese high class set like VSTAR Universe, or Shiny Treasure ex if you want something cheaper. The way these boxes are structured makes for the most fun pack opening experience in my opinion! (Less packs, but a guaranteed hit in every pack and usually some nice chase cards)
Welcome @Godzichevre pack opening can be a true addiction and lots of fun. Nice to have you here
Welcome @Whis_Cash . Those are some great stories. The day you find your Base Charizard will be glorious. Glad that you can appreciate at the other great Pokemon . Did I miss it? Do you have other species favorites?
Welcome @Godzichevre and @Whis_Cash, glad to have you both here!
Heh, oddly enough as someone learning Japanese I have a terrible time remembering artist’s names - there’s so many now! But of who I recall… a couple people like dsuke and Uninori have a cool comic book-esque style. Souichirou Gunjima creates a ton of motion in his, those are great. The knitted/amigurumi ones from Asako Ito are adorable, my mom enjoys them too haha.
For my personal favorites I love crazy colors and big cool creatures. Loved the recent miraidon and koraidon(edit: I love that full art promo of him snoozing on a ledge too) cards. Tomokazu Komiya’s stuff is pretty wild. Cards I remember really enjoying recently but not the artist were: TEF sizzlipede, CZ Mewtwo, Alcremie from stellar crown is gorgeous, and honestly most cards from surging sparks in general. Oricorio stands out in my memory, and Amulet of Hope as one of my favorite looking non-person trainer cards in awhile.
How about you? I’m guessing you’ve shared it around here before =)
Haha, I don’t blame you at all! I also have a soft spot for Ito, as my daughter loves their work and their cards were part of her first ever binder! I agree that Uninori has had some great artworks already!
For me personally, my top two favorite artists are sowsow (I like pretty much every card they do) and Kusube (also a ton of good ones, but I do really enjoy some of the older ones from Vending and VS series), but I’ve also been really enjoying Kato’s art recently! (the Grotle art rare and gold stadium cards are some of my favorites)
wow, I can see why. Yeah, I just snapped up a few lunatone cards from the trainer gallery. I absolutely love that colored pencil style look.
Oh, only seen a few of his. Creates a massive sense of scale for an inch tall drawing. Good picks.
edit: my Tatsugiri card with Osare as the illustrator just showed up. Very outside the norm for a pokemon card but its pretty cool. Def gonna look into more of theirs.
Thanks for the kind words and the advices I was thinking about the japanese version of Pokemon 151. Seems to have good fun opening it and chasing these master balls
You’re welcome! And I’d agree! I had a ton of fun opening Japanese 151!
