Hey yall,

I’m Jowge, been in possession of my set since 95’ like a lot of others I’m sure. Started playing mtg as I got older and never really got back into PokĆ©mon.

In my early 30’s I’m now going through my old collection to figure out what I want to display and keep, as so many of these cards have a story, and what I’m looking to sell or trade. Looking to expand my knowledge and meet more of the community. PNW local.

Welcome @jowge! Our stories are very similar! I’m also an avid MTG player! I can definitely vouch that E4 is one of the best places for learning about the Pokemon TCG. I would take a look at the Articles, Guides & Resources section and the Giant Megaboard section to start the plunge. There are so many great resources here, and a wealth of knowledge from E4 members. Also, try looking over Bulbapedia for set lists and to find new cards. I’ve discovered so many cards that I’ve never seen before when looking there! Don’t be afraid of Japanese releases either! Some of the most amazing cards in the hobby were only released in Japan. Welcome!

Welcome to the forum @kakefaen, @jowge

@kakefaen, The closest I have come to what you described is using an energy card as a makeshift coin when testing decks with a friend. It definitely works!

Thank you! It’s been great poking around I’ll have to check there, thanks for the link. In the last few days I rebindered my entire set and have a growing list I want to add. About to cut my teeth with grading as well.

Hello All!

I’ve been a long-time reader (3+ years) of the forum and finally decided to create my own account. I’ve been an avid PokĆ©mon fan since the day the original Red and Blue games were released and the original base set of the TCG was launched.

Like many others, revisiting my old cards during COVID-19 was the catalyst for getting me back into the collecting hobby (which is something I’ve wanted to do for many years). I also enjoy re-playing the original games from time to time, which is always a fun, nostalgic experience.

I’m now in my early 30’s and am focused primarily on collecting WOTC, specifically PSA 10 Shadowless Holos at the moment (currently own Magneton and Poliwrath). Silver and Gold were my favorite games, so outside of PSA 10 Shadowless I’m also collecting select Neo cards in 1st ed PSA 10 (Tyranitar and Legendary Dogs are my primary focus).

I currently live in Dallas, TX. Looking forward to meeting and learning from the community, as well as doing whatever I can to contribute back.

1st I would like to thank SMPRATTE for creating this, something that will live on through time. And until today I never knew fully he was founder, going through the site today and seeing he was the founder of E4, I and many countless others are very grateful and thankful for the contributions of this platform, knowledge and so many others have contributed as well.

My name is Luke and the time has come. I believe in PokƩmon before and now and the longevity and preservation of PokƩmon aka Pocket Monsters aka Capsule Monsters. I believe PokƩmon is Phenomena that has imbedded itself into the fabric of time and society. I was one of those with a deep passion back in the day 7-8-9 years old playing red version, watching PokƩmon every Saturday Morning, having 2 binders for English and Japanese version. It was my 1st early passion in life. Unfortunately I left in 2003 to play and start on my highschool football team. I put PokƩmon down and into storage all the PokƩmon life, the 2 stacked filled of holo binders and collection.

On October 3rd 2020, my entire life changed all over again, the fire has been light over again and I had seen a landscape of opportunity within PokĆ©mon and having some extensive knowledge from when I was younger, I decided to go all in and submit to PSA grading over 110 from my collection and that day I did that and went home my eyes, ears and mind had exploded, the market for PokĆ©mon and the culture it had created, people still loved PokĆ©mon so right then and there I made a decision to go all in. Extensive research online within early vintage sets for days and weeks, regaining previously learned information within sets and promos and years of PokĆ©mon, teaching myself how to professional grade, what to look for what to not look for. Since I was New to everything I seen opportunities where others may have not because being in so long. I also think long term which didn’t allow me to have thoughts of a reseller just looking for a quick buck, I was and am about creating value and for the long run, I’m about growing, learning, building, sharing, to me PokĆ©mon is a snap shot in time of moments in time, it’s memories forever, it’s modern Art and has a true value which we give it.

Last year I rewent down the Japanese vintage rabbit hole and haven’t looked back since. All my resources, time, money and eggs are in PokĆ©mon especially rare vintage Japanese, I rather have money in this where potential could grow into something more because of many factors and I rather look at this beautiful art of PokĆ©mon than have money bank gaining no interest. This can become a opportunity if one takes the time and cares enough to build and do so, I’ve been purchasing so extensively like I’m preparing for something crazy. I did go to hard with money spent and time learning, I did at times over leverage myself, I did 100 percent put all my eggs in 1 basket and that’s vintage Japanese PokĆ©mon, I did make choices and decisions which I shouldn’t of, i did learn from those and I did study exactly what I was purchasing and why and mostly everything purchased was bought at a good to great entrance point, I care about creating for myself, preserving the history of early PokĆ©mon and sharing that with the world to come, I always strive to do something I can be proud of, within various sets of PokĆ©mon I plan to do that.

Hello E4 members,

My name is Sean, 27 y/o and I live in the Netherlands.
Like many of you I grew up with PokĆ©mon back in the late 90’s - early 2000’s.

PokƩmon was a big part of my childhood. I collected the trading cards and played the original videogames up to the Diamond & Pearl era. As I entered my teenage years I started moving onto different aspects of life but I always kept a soft spot for this franchise.

Like many other people I got back into PokƩmon during the covid lockdown and after digging up my old cards from back in the day I was overloaded by nostalgia and joy.
I was shocked to see the hype that was going on and the prices some of these cards were going for.

I figured it was time for me to join a forum with like-minded collectors / fans and to hopefully make new friends along the way.

Hard to choose from so many but I like to stick with the classics. My favourite PokƩmon are: Snorlax, Gengar, Dragonite, Alakazam & Charizard (surprise surprise).

I mainly collect cards from the WOTC era, EX & Gold Star era and I love the exclusive Japanese promo cards such as the Masaki vending machine series.
