Weird residue on card post PSA grading - Anybody else?

That you are an absolute nutter cracking cases of $8k cards maybe?!? You got bigger balls than me man that’s for sure, glad you could get it off and really hope it comes back a 10 for you.

Haha thank you!

Nice to see a true purist collecting the card and not the grade.

A hefty $5k 9/10 differential and going right for it. Kudos and good luck on the regrade. I wouldn’t send them the video or anything beforehand and honestly I’d send the label separately at a later date. Seeing this video and a cracked 10 I feel like they’d be more likely to skew 9.

Bingo

Got my order back from PSA 2 days ago.

I’m having a hard time telling if it’s actually on the card or just the case.

It’s not an expensive card but it’s one of my favorite cards because of the artwork.

If it’s on the case it should cast a shadow when tilted with light. Plus, I see there’s a little side to side room. Slide the card side to side and see if the mark moves with the card.

The back smudges are on the case and not the card. That’s a relief.
The front though, I can’t tell even when moving the card around.

OP you have balls my friend…

Do you have a pic of the card before you sent it? Do you remember that mark being there

I don’t have a picture but I always wash my hands before I handle my cards and examine them under a bright LED light before sending them off to be graded. So I’m positive the crusty looking stuff wasn’t there. The back smudges weren’t on the card though, I checked last night. When I moved the card inside the case, the smudges stayed in the same spot and didn’t move with the card.

Here’s my two cents. I think a lot of these things are on the case. I’ve seen this over the years. I’ve also cracked cards to see for myself and 99% of the time. Its on the case. I’m not sure what exactly this ā€œresidueā€ is that’s being left behind. Or how it got there. But what I do know, is that it’s almost on every card. Here’s something for you to all try at home. Take one of your PSA slabbed PokĆ©mon cards. I would use a psa 10 so as to not confuse issues in the card with issues on the case. Take your cellphone and turn on your brightest phone flashlight. Now press the light directly on the plastic and move it around. I bet some of your best cards will light up like a cheap motel room using a black light on February 15. I’ve noticed. Most of the spots that light up look like rectangles or squares. But don’t be alarmed. It’s not on your card. Swolepoke looked like he had a real issue with his card. This doesn’t mean that everyone of you has a card with shit all over it. It’s all good. Don’t worry, PSA isn’t encapsulating your cards while eating pizza.

Update:

Sent the card via 8 day express order and got the card back today. To my horror, there is now residue on the card AGAIN but this time a different location on the card. Absolutely ridiculous. I legit told them to be wary of the residue on the submission notes but they evidently don’t read or care about those notes. Super frustrated…

Hmmmm…pic?

Is this now a common occurrence? I haven’t submitted cards for a bit, but these incidents of high-value cards getting residue on them from PSA is worrying me for future submissions - how often is this occurrence (esp. for those of you who send in bulk orders at a time?)

It’s been happening a lot in the past 2-3 months or so. Ever since they stopped putting the clear plastic sleeve in their yugioh slabs. It’s honestly quite concerning.

Also does anyone know how to attach a photo? I apologize for being a noob lol but all I see is the attach photo URL option

you need to upload your photos to imgur, right click and open the photos on new tabs there, copy the URL and then insert the link in the ā€œImage URLā€ bar

What grade did it come back this time?

It came back a 10 again thankfully. Just so stupid because the reason I cracked it in the first place was to remove the residue :man_facepalming:. Now it came back with it again but in a slightly different spot on the back… This new residue is whiter in color but smaller in surface area. Did some close up investigation of the residue and some part of the residue appears to be on the inside face of the slab, while some part has rubbed onto the card and has now stuck to the card. When I cracked it last time, the residue was not exactly sticky though so not sure how it sticks so well to the cardstock.

What is the consistency most like? Plastic, etc.?

Thanks for teaching me how to upload pics.

Anyways, here’s a picture of the card after regrading it. I guess you could make the argument its not AS bad as last time since it covers less surface area but my god it really sucks this happened again. Quite unfortunate it had to happen on this card.
