US Tariff News and Updates Discussion

Is this normal? I haven’t bought from Japan for a while and not sure how it works. Thanks in advance for any information you guys have. The item was under $750 as well

Proceed with caution. Tariffs should be paid by the importer

The Duty Delivery Paid (DDP) shipping method has the tariffs paid before the item is shipped out. It’s been mentioned a few times in this thread already. The $800 exception limit has been removed last Friday so everything is tariffed.

So basically if it were me as a Canadian shipping to the US, the 35% tariff would need to be paid before Canada Post would accept the package. But there’s currently no automated way to receive that money from the buyer via eBay.

So everything they are saying checks out but of course there is always risk when sending someone money directly. If they end up shipping via FedEx Collect on Delivery (COD) you could be charged twice

Will the package be held until payment is made?

Might as well add the entire rest of the world there instead of just Canada. I know of no other country that had a de minimis exception as generous as the United States.

:joy: You’d basically be a warehouse if this tariff/no-shipping thing continues for longer

This is who I ordered my McDonalds Pikas from. After the whole issue to begin with thought I was not getting them since the price skyrocketed after my pre-order. Had to message them like 2 weeks ago asking if it was ever going to be shipped and they sent me the boilerplate message above about the tariffs blah blah. I wasn’t happy since I ordered before and the release was before the tariffs but I will say they did actually ship them honoring my purchase price and it arrived today with no tariff being due. Based on their feedback, it seems I am a lucky one but I do not blame them for charging for shipping now.

I’d assume so. We’ll find out come Monday bc I’m not gonna be paying the tariff until Tuesday lol

Kinda crazy how 15% import duties have basically blown up international trade. You’d think it’d be easier lol

This UPU press release has some interesting information: US bound postal traffic has declined by over 80% following the new tariff regulations, however a technical solution to calculate and collect the tariffs in advance is currently starting to be rolled out to the international postal operators, so there is at least some progress.
