I am new to trading online, but how do you cover both parties if no money is being used (card for card only)?

Each party would take out insurance on their own package.

You’re best off finding a reputable middleman though.

Each pay the same shipping method? You can have your package insured, but then if it’s lost, gg wp son.

but the post office does not cover insurance if the other party decides to not ship, they just cover lost or damages on the one package

There’s steps you can take to be safer but no foolproof way to be completely covered. You should ask this on a thread and see how the community responds.

Some people will send the equivalent cash value to each other via PayPal goods and services (i.e. if your trade was worth $200, you’d each send $200 to each other). The items are then shipped with tracking and if anyone fails to deliver it is a simple PayPal case to recover the funds. You are out the PayPal fees but if you want to pursue that protection then it’s up to you. You could also utilize a middleman, i.e. you both ship your cards to someone you both trust and once they have verified it you’re shipped your half of the trade. Most reputable middlemen will charge for this though.

If there is no money at all involved then there’s no way to ensure a fair trade other than the person’s reputation. Utilize your best judgement. Package insurance would only cover if one item was provably lost or damaged in the mail.

^ this. For the trades I’ve done we’ve both paid each other the same amount via PayPal G&S so you don’t run the risk of the other party not shipping your cards. 3% is a price I’m willing to pay to ensure the trade goes smoothly.

so there is nothing that can be done if someone doesn’t send the correct item or nothing at all besides messaging them?

If on reddit they’d get banned from the pokemon trade reddit

if on here they’d get banned from efour

if on instagram you would put them on blast and no one would deal with them

that’s pretty much all that can be done if you don’t use a middleman or the money suggestion from earlier
