Tips for selling sealed booster packs on eBay

Hey all. Happy New Year! Didn’t see much with the search feature on this and wanted to see if any veterans had additional thoughts.

I’ve listed a pack on eBay. I wanted to do what I could on my end to protect myself from any scammers. I’ve read some comments that said that eBay doesn’t care if you record yourself putting items in a package. This is what I’ve come up with.

  • take a video of the pack close up showing the original seal and the pack being weighed
  • take high quality photos of the sealed pack

Thanks!

did you put it on scales and take a photo of it to put on ebay?.

Ebay doesn’t care if you do video if the scammer wants to scam they will do so, For me I always add tracking and if needed signature anything that keeps them low lifes away I’ll do it, also update your Ebay buyer requirements to block out potential scammers etc.
Also check their feedback and left for others to.

Taking a video of you putting it in the box will not help in any way against a buyer claiming it isn’t as described. They could say you sent nothing, they could say it doesn’t seem authentic. Ebay will always side with them. Don’t like it? Neither do I. That’s the way it is.

The ONLY thing you can do is screen your buyers with best offer allowed and accept a good feedback and reputable buyer. Even then it isn’t foolproof, but that’s the best shot you have. Luckily most people are honest and it is fine in the majority of cases. You have better protection with graded items, not sealed product. Though of course you do have SOME recourse if they open it and return stuff damaged etc. Then you have at least a chance to try and fight.

Thanks for the advice!

I did put a scale photo on eBay. I was planning to do signature confirmation and I have the buyer restrictions as strict as possible, but those settings don't give a whole lot of comfort. If they happen to win the auction, then I don't really have the option to filter them out by feedback, correct? I think at best I could remove bids before the auction ends.

I did also have the thought to do best offer allowed to screen buyers. I also have it as an auction with the min bid a on the lower side (as opposed to a higher min bid or buy it now). I was trying to take advantage of the $1 max fees for listing before the end of last year. It looks like at this point I have to leave it as an auction.

I don’t think so I think you can refuse to sell to someone not 100% sure as I mainly buy over selling. You can cancel orders etc,Don’t think you can remove bids they would have to retract them.

One of the riskiest items to sell in my experience. If someone opens it and is disappointed (more likely than not) then they are more likely to try and scam you. I take clear pictures of the seal and always put the weight for vintage packs. I haven’t even sold that many and have had a few issues:

  1. Neo Genesis - Buyer claimed that the item hadn’t turned up so I went through all my tracking receipts and found that it had been delivered a few days before, they then responded with “oh it must have fell behind the cupboard and I didn’t notice”.

  2. Neo Discovery Blister - I’m 95% sure this blister wasn’t separating with the original glue drying up but when the buyer got it he complained that it was. I offered a full refund if he returned it but he refused that, and then I offered a £50 partial refund meaning that he got the blister for less than the price of standalone booster pack. Refund was given and negative feedback was still received.

  3. Hidden Fates - Literally 1 in 4 of the people I sold Hidden Fates packs straight from the tins complained in some form or the other, claiming I resealed it because the seals are so bad from factory and claiming I “weighed them and gave them the packs with all the rubbish cards in that were the same”. Had to give out some partial refunds because people weren’t happy they didn’t pull the Charizard and I still got negative feedback for it.

Also forgot if you give feedback maybe wait till they give it, for me as a Buyer I give feedback when it arrives if at all, sellers sometimes have it so it auto gives positive feedback, so if a scammer gives a neg etc you could do the same etc.

Thanks. Appreciate the response. I upped the min bid and I’ll filter some offers (if I get any). If they look to have some solid recent feedback and have been buying similar items, I’ll think about selling it. If not, I’ll just be patient and sell local.

You’d think eBay would be hip to these scammers shenanigans, considering how they are now aware of the money involved in trading cards.

Had a pack up for sale that was purchased today by a 1 feedback buyer who’s account was created in 2015 but their first purchase was 12 months ago.

They paid full asking price on a buy it now or best offer and sent payment immediately. I hate selling sealed stuff. I am a bit worried about shipping it out to a buyer like this.

Dont offer partial refunds, it just encourages ebay buyers to hunt for money back every order. If its inevitable that they are playing up then I just say terrible sorry you are not happy, please open a returns case and send it back if you are not happy. Negative feedback cannot be left after a returns case is resolved.

Honestly i would not recommend selling your packs on ebay and try locally if its at all possible.
If not the best advice is from @brendantheclayboy

Also waiting to leave feedback for a buyer as suggested by the now Deleted Member does not work, you can not give Negative feedback as a seller once a buyer has paid for an item, You can only leave Positive feedback.
