Scans on the back of blastoise are +15, they are good resolution and you can see it. Scans on the front are kinda garbage. I think ive seen the 1 open up in the past and make thick look thin
That one also appears to have a saggy E where the connection between the arms are rounded. The top of the “1” also has an unusual missing ink dot.
I looked at a few dozen 1st edition and haven’t seen a similar issue. I feel like it has a non-zero chance of being a fake stamp.
I fully get that this is on many levels ridiculous… but, ya know, also no need to be a dick about it in the middle on the thread either. Respectfully, imho (Fwiw, I really do like your memes heh)
Yeah, the letters aren’t very sharp and I don’t think it’s a resolution issue as @Nightvulture suggested imo. I think it’s just a blurry ink application, which I don’t think is that common but we do see smudged stamps sometimes.
Hmm, I could be imagining it but the D shape may also be slightly off too. It’s a little more open than most I’ve seen.
I think it would be really cool if this was a thick stamp variant with the trap fix (from right before the switch to thin stamps)… but I’m starting to also worry this could be a (imo) pretty good fake stamp application. I’m not sure either way at this point tbh
Email the auction house, blow em up with emails to fig out what stamp it is. I already did lol
This thread could use some input from @smpratte, he is an expert on the 1st ed stamp variants and noticing fakes
Just a bit of fun
All good
All the non-holo shadowless are +15 on the back😅
Here is a comparison, questionable stamp on the left, real on the right. The “1” is the most noticeable. The “T” looks different. You can stare long enough that all the letters look different, but there is only so much you can do with scans. However the placement is good. If this is indeed a fake, its pretty convincing at a glance.
ah that is good to know, still getting the hang of this
You’ll get it, it’s a lot to learn.
Did you happen to notice the halo effect surrounding the entire stamp? It looks like there is some kind of opaque outline around the stamp slightly obscuring the rosettes. If it is fake, it could be a layer of semi-transparent backing outlining the stamp like on a temporary tattoo. It seems to be adding to the overall blurriness of the stamp. I don’t see how a smudged stamp would cause such an effect.
It seems most clear around the “ON” where you barely see any rosettes close to the stamp. None appear inside the arms of the “N”. Could be AI OCR smoothing but seems pretty unusual.
You’re right, the placement is spot on. I still wouldn’t trust it, or PSA..
