i refuse to believe anyone actually thinks its pokeman, adults always said it that way when i was a child because they knew it annoyed me.
For background…I am 32. I’ve been collecting the cards and generally interested in Pokemon since 1998 (so, 20 years). My mother, (age 59) still says “pokeyman” or “pocky-man”. Refers to any and all characters as to this, even Pikachu.
I don’t personally care in part because I know she thinks she’s being cute/clever/funny and also intentionally showing her lack of interest and knowledge on it. 
Linguistically I’m not sure why this is a popular pronunciation but on an individual level my mom intentionally mispronounces things regularly to be dismissive or show, what to her is, hilarious familiarity.
It seems to be in the same vein as people saying “sports ball” about all sports. We get it, you’re not into it, you are not the first one to make this misnomer.
