The full art format has given artists a lot more room to explore and to have their original works more fully represented. Today’s alternate arts are stunning, capitalize on the full potential of the artists working with Pokemon, and convey the sense of having pulled something rare and special without depending on kitsch color variations.
Sorry, you viewed it that way but you’re inadvertently proving my point. Gen VIII outside of the outlier artists that have always remained consistent in quality (and quantity with how many individual items per set are consigned to them) has only started to be fully decent this year and was relatively garbage expectedly overall ever since. You have to understand that it has been almost 3 years since the last Tag Teams that were the conclusive mechanic to be able to expand artistically, be it art direction focusing on the same staff as those responsible for the lower rarity cards we all adore to hiring artists to do a generational special or two. This has been a formula that has been mainly founded since gen IV thanks to the dawn of the Arceus, Zorua/oark and LEGEND cards from what was such a tediously painfully boring-ass generation, even though that era had the last truly great shining cards. The collabs (Eevee GX by Q-rais) was still a generation ago) and quality is thankfully increasing yet at an equal pace also is the same amount of laughing stock filler material that 5ban and others alike are stretched constantly to focus on reducing the quantity for quality in the formula since generation IV. 5ban has been known to produce stellar wonders with the gold borders and so this overall direction is a natural take on starting small for the beginning audience and then make accessible areas for niches like us here. Also when does modern end and intermediate begin? if you ask me in it’s 3 decade timeline it’s the brink of generation IV.
If my writing is still too much to take in as this view is me trying to explain this idea from a meta topic, don’t be too hard on yourself, as it’s a struggle I have to face day in day out.

I think modern has something for everyone.
Most people who bash modern seem to be upset with the relative number of things they like getting released, and don’t appreciate the absolute numbers.
[meaning there are more/better _(whatevers)_ than 10 years ago, but they only make up 5% of what Pokemon is releasing, so people look at the rest and say, "XYZ is stupid, dumb mechanic, stupid art, wack promos, etc.]
Do I make any sense?
