The Old Giant English Market Thread BC

The UK desperately needs a consignment service from someone well-known with a big following

What other option do we have in the UK other than getting hosed on ebay auctions with high grade vintage cards often selling for less than the grading fee or 50-80% of FMV. I even find they can sell for less than PSA offers to buy them for

As for buy it now I find that nothing moves even when listing as cheapest on ebay and offering a further discount to watchers

I have seen several posts now of low sales in the UK. Why not just send to the several consignment options in the USA? The only risk is damage or lost during shipping, but looks like the upside is well worth that risk since these sales are not so good

Tbf it’s only really the mid era / mid grade / niche market that is soft. Both modern 10s and wotc 9-10s frequently do higher than USA prices. The market is just very shallow for anything niche. Also, the only places taking consignment from the UK that I can think of is fanatics, which has the same issue where anything niche gets destroyed. I can only find 1 sale comparable to the 3 listings above, and it was a PSA 9 lucario that went for $5 more than shinycards PSA 8.

I think the reality just is that these are niche cards in niche grades and the only option is to list them and wait months

Japanese set cards with an English-language equivalent tend to perform noticeably worse. It’s not uncommon to see a PSA 9 JP set card sell for less than the same English card in a PSA 6-7. The Japanese PSA 9 Chansey ex above is roughly selling for English PSA 6 prices, which isn’t too out of the ordinary. It’s not a super popular card to begin with, and many people will view the Japanese version as a “cheap alternative”.

While I do sympathize with UK sellers (Canada has a lot of the same problems, especially in this post-tariff world), I feel this speaks more to the perception of Japanese set cards with English-speaking collectors.

True but they also sell for more in the us. it’s related to your point, why English cards do better is primarily because of the us market.

I debated picking up the fourth ever graded psa 10 around 2021/22 for €1200,- but couldnt afford it. Its my favourite ex era rev holo.

Sent in 2 raw ones that i got for €4,- each around 2017-2019 that got a psa 7 & psa 8

Mind-blowing when 8s are going for £200, but I get the condition rarity thing with those ultra low pop 10s

The IG crowd is asking $150k+ for it

It’s also worth noting that Japanese Chansey ex has a nerfed holo border. It sounds like a joke but I care about details like that and others do as well

Take photos that dont show that its graded.. just zoom in super close. If it sells just crack it out

Funny enough I finally cracked it today after pondering it for a week

i never understand the point of all these maths when the entire thing makes the assumption that anyone is gonna sell their 10 candidates raw

This is some revolutionary stuff. I would have never thought that grading the most popular card in a set was monetarily worth it :scream:

This is like me looking at shrouded fable promos and saying “these are going to be big”

Better yet, me looking at surging sparks and saying “THIS is going to be big”
