Shining Gyarados is the shit while Shining Charizard is shit.
Id much rather have the Gyarados, especially if you can get the Magikarp too

Been in the hobby for over a decade & this is the first time I’m seeing anyone put Gyarados over Charizard. Granted I was a kid a decade ago I always remembered Shining Charizard being the most desired card from Neo Series. I would definitely be shocked if Gyarados surpassed Zard given the history. Maybe in 10 but I can’t see that ever happening in any other grade or raw.
Also Shining Magikarp is extremely underrated, that card deserves more attention.

73 XY Evolutions booster boxes were just listed on TCGPlayer for $580-$595. I guess this is the bubble burst everyone was waiting for? Or at least the end of someone’s pump/dump…

With the pop 6 Skarmory selling for 12.5k a while ago, 80k for the Blissey does seem pretty unbelievable to me… although I do think 12.5k for a pop 6 WOTC holo is ridiculously cheap

I think Neo sets and Expedition aren’t as comparable though, Neo sets have way more demand imo.
Also the Skarmory went fairly fast

I think your dates are off a little bit, but this was my general feeling too. I paid £160 for a box at the end of August 2020. The price isn’t close to being where it was eight months ago.

600 is a lot more then 100, although prices have slashed downwards rapidly and have we seen price stabilisation yet? I’d wait a few weeks first to see what happens

it wont be done stabilizing for a long time. Who knows how many boxes are still out there being hoarded by people. The influx of everyone trying to liquidate when prices were $1000 were never gonna hold and current prices are reflecting that. I dont think it’ll go down all the way to what it was in August but I wouldn’t be surprised if it drops another 20-40%.

I think people are failing to realize that the boxes aren’t actually available at 600. The listing has been updated to state that it’s a loose 36 packs, the other listing will most likely have a similar fate soon enough.

@muk, @admiral I gotta disagree here boys. The shining Gyarados artwork just doesn’t do it for me. While the artwork makes me nostalgic for finding a shining Gyarados in Pokemon Gold/Silver, he still looks like a screaming shrimp.
The shining Charizard captures its aloofness perfectly. The artwork’s story reads that his opponents pose no match and thus he’s bound to floating around searching for someone worthy of his time. And to do that while he’s purple only makes him more sinister.

You’re correct. The gigantic premium on packs from a box makes little sense to me, though. I understand why there’s a premium. But I don’t understand why there’s a 50% premium, especially when it’s exceptionally unlikely that this store is selling weighed or inauthentic packs. Hell, I know where one can buy Evolutions packs for $13 each, and there’s a 0% chance this place is weighing them (and that’s $468 for 36 packs).
One argument that people have made is that there are more reliable pull ratios for packs from boxes. This argument doesn’t make much sense to me, though. The pull rates of cards is identical, it’s just that the range of results you’ll get from a box will be smaller (i.e., it’s exceptionally unlikely to get <11 or >13 holos from a box). I don’t see why this should be associated with a premium, though.

A 50% premium over 36 unweighed packs? I can understand a premium, but a 50% premium seems ridiculous if one intends to open the box.
What it indicates to me is that the people buying $900 Evolutions boxes aren’t opening them. If you can still buy 36 unweighed packs for <$500, then no one with any sort of sense would pay $900 to open a sealed box.

4th print theme decks seem underpriced, PSA grades 4th print now. The starters included in theme decks are worth over $1000 graded 10 I think.

I believe this should only exist if the sealed item is exceedingly rare i.e Ex Deoxys which is claimed to be extremely rare
