Many of you have probably noticed this debate on the internet lately so I figured I would see what everyone’s opinion was here on E4.
In the world, are there more Doors or more Wheels?
With wheels it is a little more obvious what you can consider a wheel such as toys, office chairs, vehicles of course, conveyors (massive amount!) roller blades/skates, bikes, scooters and much more!
For entertainment and competitive purposes I am going to have a wider range of what you can consider a “door” Remember not all doors need to be hinged such as a sliding door, but if it clicks shut, has a handle to open close, or hinged I would probably consider it a door for this debate. So not only traditional doors in buildings and vehicles but also things like microwave, oven, fridge/freezer, cupboards, vanities, entertainment center, hutch, mailbox, safe deposit box, caskets, fuel door on vehicles, glove compartment and much more.
The amount of wheels typically on conveyors almost in itself wants me to lean towards picking wheels, also with the amount of toys such as hot wheels. But the wide variety of doors on vehicles, kitchen cupboards along with your vanities, entertainment centers etc. and with caskets having 2 doors on each makes it a tough decision.
Doors. Think of the billions of people living in huge cities like Tokyo, Shanghai etc. that don’t have cars, but certainly have doors. Even a car itself often has an equal amount of wheels and doors (even more if you count the trunklid), so it’s not like there’s a 4:2 advantage for every car.
The thing that may holding the doors’ advantage back are bicycles, but I still tend towards doors.
depends on what all is classified as what. Are gears and cogs wheels? Are windows doors? If gears count as wheels I think wheels win, but if not, I’m going with doors.
Interesting, did not think of gears. Probably by definition it is a wheel, with the amount of machinery that has different gears like a watch or clock, industrial equipment etc. that would probably make wheels the clear winner. I would say no on windows. If door gang has anymore door ideas to make it more competitive let me know!
Quoting directly from the Guinness World Record website:
“Think of all the makes of tyre you know. Who would make the most tyres each year? The simple answer is Lego! Since 2006, Lego makes around 306 million rubber tyres each year for its construction kit toys. In 2010, this number was topped at 381 million tyres, easily beating all other tyre manufacturers. Even though Lego products are unlikely to fit an everyday car, they do fit all descriptions of a standard tyre, albeit of the solid rubber variety. Even the rubber compound used for the Lego products would not be out of place on a domestic car.”
I know some Lego cars have doors too, but the ratio heavily favors the wheels here.
Hot wheels does make this debate seem to favor wheels greatly. I have read that some people say the doors on hot wheels should be counted but most doors on toys are not functioning, I probably wouldn’t count them. Team doors not looking too good…
Except in places like Tokyo, Shanghai, and even Saigon/Ho Chi Minh city where I lived and worked, you won’t have many cars but you’ll still find many wheels:
