The Giant Professional Grading Thread

Hi Dyl,

Thanks for the feedback. How exactly you determine the centering on top right corner if you only have 2 borders to work with? What if the whole image is shifted diagonally and although you may have same thickness for both borders when compared between them you can never tell how thick they should be in relation to the overall image. Is there a standard border thickness for these cards? Or is the standard border thickness always the same accross all editions? I do not think that base set borders are equal size with sword and shield borders. If this is true, who knows the exact thickness for e-reader cards?

Anyone else unable to access their orders on the PSA site? I keep getting a 404 file not found page.

The best advice that I can give is to look at thousands of e-Reader cards.

After viewing enough e-Reader cards, you will be able to spot it immediately. Check the upper right corner and you’ll begin to see the differences in centering. When the card is shifted diagonally, you’ll notice that both the top and right borders are too large or too small compared to “normal.” Your brain will begin to know how large the borders should be, just like for the WoTC era, EX era, etc.

Worked for me but as of the last hour literally looks like they moved into the beta version of the orders page which is complete shit and I have no idea how to get back to normal lol

How are they compensating you?

Had me send it in under mechanical error. And covering for the next day shipping to send it there and back

SGC announced today that TCG grading is $9 for any value (for 5-10 day TAT) and their 1 day service is $40 now.

THE RACE TO $0 IS ON

The conversion is in. Still only pop 13 for this card as a top population as well.

They must be fairly busy as I sent it on the 8th of August to the London Office, it only changed to “grading/imaging/encapsulation” today and updated without notifying me. Should be home soon at least. Looks as clean as when I sent it, been worried it’d be nicked or damaged doing this as it’s a very, very clean card bar one holo scratch that marked it down.

Just noticed an oddity or two in my sub as well. I put in 24 cards for reslabbing, nearly all Raichus.

I’ve had one card go from a 9 to a 10 and 6 cards rise from a 9 to a 9.5+. Did I miss the memo that they would consider upping some cards as part of this? I thought it was purely 9.5’s would become 10’s and everything else stayed the same. I’ll need to see if the pop reports update over the next few days as some of the new 9.5’s are pop 0 at that level.

But they were smart enough to spot my Fossil Raichu as the 1999-2000 variant without me pointing it out as missing, I meant to ask them but forgot to put anything in with the card.

The only theory i have is they kept a note of subgrades and bumped them up as appopriate. The one card i had with subgrades had that. 2 x 9.5 and 2 x 9 went from a 9 to a 9.5

How long did it take to be reimbursed?

That’s awesome if true across the board. At launch they did say that 2 x 9.5s would bump 9s to 9.5 but then they backtracked. I have some cards with nice subs that could use an upgrade so I hope it’s true lol

I think they review it on a Case by case basis rather than an official rule. A few of mine were bumped up but more did not

I’m confused I thought they got rid of the 9.5 grade?

Nope. 9.5 is now their “Mint+” grade. Old 9.5 Gem Mint is now 10 Gem Mint.

Exactly. I wonder whether their grading standards have changed (again). I am waiting for my first submission to be graded after the change. Any initial thoughts or feelings on this? In your opinion, is a 10 nowadays harder to obtain than a 9.5 before the change?

@jeverstones : I notice you collect a lot of German cards as an American. Why is that? Usually, not too many collectors outside German-speaking countries are interested.

I realized that when I looked at cards, my eyes would do a few things.

  1. look at the image and holographic

  2. look for a 1st edition stamp

I wasn’t reading the cards’ text, and I knew the names of the Pokemon anyway.

But I really wanted a grade 10 base set in 1st Edition. German 1st Edition stamps are in English (unlike Spanish & Italian, for example).

The price difference between English 1st Edition and German 1st Edition is silly. You can put together a full grade 10 German base set in 1st Edition for 5-10% of the total cost of English.

The French are amazing, too, since you can find 1st Edition holos with incredible holo bleed.

Anyone reading this have personal experience regrading (graded card review) a BGS 10 in the case to a black label?

Something must have changed in PSA’s grading process/ handling? The consistent damage on the top right corner is insane.
