The Giant Professional Grading Thread

I sent in 20 cards, got upcharged $14.18. Don’t know my grades yet, so not sure what they dinged.

Are older PSA cases heavier than newer? Was just selling an old PSA sub in the 2xxxx cert and it felt heavier than newer ones. I don’t have a gram scale though so can’t find out myself. Not even a big deal just curious if I’m going crazy.

Yes

Has anyone else had their order stall for a long time in QA2? It’s been nearly four weeks for one of mine. I assumed this would be a quick stage, since it was for my previous order. Maybe the upcharging queue is separate and has its own backlog?

I sent cards to psa through graded gem, one card was a dark charizard holo which looked mint, Gradedgem pregraded it a 9/10 but it now has a bend in the middle and got a grade of 6. Would you guys do anything about it if you have pictures of the card before sending it to graded gem and you have the message from gradedgem with the pregrade.

Thanks

My last bulk order spent about 1 month in assembly and then 1 month in QA2.

I would at least send that question to GG, especially if you have a high res image of the problem area prior to sending it with time stamp etc.

Got upcharges from a Ludkins bulk order I sent in Nov 2020. Looks like they’re finally coming home :’)

Super stoked about both of these, the Festival was a likely 10 and the Pikachu was a bit more borderline due to some light edgewear.

Does anyone have experience with how long it tends to take PSA to ship after upcharges are paid?

I paid Ludkins for upcharges more then 2 weeks ago and so used to Ludkins shipping orders to me super fast so expecting the delays are from PSA

I’m not super familiar with the grading process- are these “upcharges” for insurance when shipping the card back?

Upcharges are when the grading company decides they wanna extort you for more money to grade your card. Grading fees are up to certain tiers. So a $10 bulk rate card might only be for cards valued up to $500 so if they catch that the card is worth more they upcharge you to the tier they believe the card should be in.

So if you send a 50k card in bulk and they catch it instead of charging you the $10 bulk fee they upcharge you the 3k to the tier they grade 50k cards on.

I’ve seen a few wonky upcharges on my recent bulk order cards worth 300-$500 sent in bulk got $10 upcharges per card
where cards worth $700-1000 got upcharged $87 per card.

Seems to me they just make up charges and force you to pay them

I guess they just get away with what the market lets them do.

From what I understand orders are not released from PSA until upcharges are all paid, and Ludkins waits to collect upcharges from everyone in the order before paying it. I waited a month after paying my upcharge with ludkins before getting a shipping notification.

Whereas when I get upcharged from PSA directly, it’s paid immediately and my order is released either the same or next day.

So you could be waiting weeks to a month cuz 1 person in the same submission as you isn’t checking their emails lol

This makes sense why my last 400 card Ludkins order (gets submitted on its own without other customer cards included). Took 3 days (edit: 2 weeks, idk what I’m talking about lol) from paying upcharges for them to ship.

Can anyone here with a PSA silver membership answer this question

With these lottery allocations(just purchased a membership today), I luckily got an allocation for 5 cards. It says that these will stay in my account for 15 days. Let’s say PSA does another allocation event in 5 days, would I be able to get more submissions from the lottery system then?

You need to use the allocation to get another

5 card submissions go brr then I guess

Is 400 cards the cut off to get your own submission. Mine that I paid upcharges on a few weeks ago was abit over 250 cards

I am not into graded cards so my thought might be way off, but from a business standpoint, couldn’t Ludkins (or any middle man) just pay PSA the upcharges, and then charge the customer after the fact? If the customer doesn’t pay the upcharge, Ludkins could just keep the graded card and sell it for more than the grading fees and upcharges were.
