Just a heads up to anyone interested, I’ve been noticing a lot more interest in these trophies (Battle Road mostly) in the original trophy plaque they were awarded in vs. loose or even graded. I can’t be sure if there absolutely is more demand in that direction or if I’m just now noticing it, but I think it’s something to be aware of. These are incredible cards with or without the plaque, but it seems like people are putting respect on the plaques and are willing to pay even more for them.
I’ve noticed the same thing. For some reason, these cases feel like a stronger part of the card’s identity than with other trophies. One reason could be that the cases look better than most others. Or, the fact that the cases were the only differentiators between the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes.
Another thing that I’ve been thinking is the possibility of cross-collectors/investors with a background in antiques placing greater value on the item being as close to original condition as possible.
As well, they’ve maybe always been worth a significant amount as a percentage but that’s becoming more noticeable now as prices increase.
The modern cases (plaques/shields/whatever) are lovely to hold and display, and many have beautiful designs. They are a literal physical “trophy”. I personally prefer PSA 8/9 quality ungraded within the case, than PSA 10 without case. The demand for cases has been high from modern trophy collectors for awhile, there just aren’t many sales for it to be noticeable.
Agreed. The original display is something a lot of people want. I had a random guy out of the blue message me on IG asking abotu my Rocket’s Special Case after he saw that I had the cards at one point. Ended up selling it to the guy for $500. It was literally just gathering dust in my closet lol.
I recently sold a Battle Road case for $2k, took months to sell. I probably undersold it tbh.
$2k by itself is strong imo. Depends on the case. While I have seen premiums well above $2k for cards with the matching case vs without, for a given case I think that is a good price. Have to be patient for a buyer with the exact matching card.
A card still encased in its trophy case is also an indication of provenance, especially now that non-trophy prints of some of these cards have surfaced.
Hello folks,
Short update for everyone who wants to buy the premium box for the newest set.
Pokémon Center online japan won‘t sell the premium boxes like always. Instead you need to participate in a raffle to obtain one.
The raffle start with april first and ends 04.23 .
I’ve personally never understood why anyone would want to grade a trophy card which already has a plastic case, though admittedly I’ve not seen a case in person and don’t know how secure they are.
There have been a lot of people in Japan falling for fake trophy listings in the past few months, so it completely makes sense that people would prefer to buy copies with a case over loose copies.
Thanks to people selling the cases without the cards I’m sure it won’t be long though before someone buys a case from someone else and sticks a fake card in it to resell.
The lottery itself ends on the 7th - 23rd is when the items will be shipped: www.pokemoncenter-online.com/?p_cd=4521329322278&pc_top=banner. This isn’t the first time they’ve done this I don’t think.
It’s a very loose lottery concept though, as it mentions “If the number of applications exceeds the number of products prepared during the lottery sales application period, there will be no sales after April 23, 2021 (Friday)” - this implies that everyone who enters the lottery will receive a box whilst stocks last, but perhaps that’s just a bad (Google) translation.
You are Right. I wasn‘t looking close enough. The lottery will end April seventh. It seems my japanese reading skills need some practice.
I don‘t think That all of the participants will get one.

Entered! Fingers crossed that I am selected to purchase one
I am looking to pre-order the Eevee Special Box coming out in May. Do you believe this be the same for that box?
Urrrgh lotteries on truly limited items really really sucks. I can understand it if they plan to continuously print these boxes and use a lottery until the demand dies down but history suggests it’s a couple prints at most and that’s all. I think the holiday set is going to be a blood bath.
I was just taking some photos for cards that I plan to list on eBay this weekend. I noticed that three of my Carddass Anime Collection cards that have been graded by PSA did not have the Made In Japan wording next to Bandai so I believe they are fake. I bought them from Probstein about 9 months ago when I first discovered these types of cards. They were only around $30 each so I don’t really care about the money, but I will certainly not list them knowing they are fake. I’ve been buying a lot of them raw from Japan recently and they all have had the Made In Japan wording next to Bandai. Just wanted to make sure they are indeed fake so please let me know what you guys think. Also, what would you do with fake cards that have been PSA graded?

I don’t collect these personally but would say they are most likely fake & I’d just throw them in a box of PSA shame.

Thank you for linking this thread! It was a good read. Will definitely start my box of PSA shame now.
Made my night

Possibly fake, but also possibly an early print or a misprint. The way the “BANDAI 1998” is off-center makes me to wonder if they are real cards that were printed before the “Made in Japan” was added to the master file. (It doesn’t appear that the “Made in Japan” was masked out by a counterfeiter.
Could you post the front of one of the cards so we could have a look at the print quality? I’m definitely intrigued!

Here are some more pictures with a raw copy that I purchased recently that has the Made In Japan wording. Now that I have them so close together it is a bit easier to see inconsistencies like the color, but the card stock seems to be quite similar. It seems to match up with the points made in the thread that @odds linked me to, so I think the PSA graded card is fake.
If they are fake, then they are a very odd item to counterfeit. I’m still leaning toward printer proofs and/or errors.
