Noticed this as well. I passed on some English modern Alt arts a month or two ago because they kept going up but noticed many of them had dropped (not quite to pre-boom levels) a decent amount.
I find it’s mostly vintage PSA 10s and various “low pop flavor of the week” that keep going up (Base 1st is also having its day). Quite a few other classes of cards (including many Gold Stars) have held or retraced slightly from their highs.
I’ve noticed the same thing re: which cards are going up right now.
We’ve already seen 1-2 instances of mini-spikes this year on ultra modern, so I assume it will be similar with these cards will settling into a price a bit above where they were 2 months ago. I’m very curious to see if we get another mini spike before the market starts to cool down.
Sm210 (stained glass birds) and Sm191 (mew3) have been going down in price. I think we could start to see a cool off soon on some of the more populous cards that have boomed recently.
CGC is super inconsistent. I have a couple good vintage pristines, but most that have gone through my hands I’ve sold b/c of scratches, dents, etc. One day I’ll make a thread as I’ve saved photos/videos of the bad ones.
Tbh the funnier thing here to me is Fanatics showing off the card and scratches at an angle on IG, and people bidding on this copy b/c of the label
Journey Together SIR’s are low, Temporal forces are the lowest they’ve been in a long time, and Rayquaza prices are actually reasonable. Might get a few rayquazas before the Mega set…
do modern cards even need polish? I cant remember opening up a pack fresh modern card and thinking “ oh man this is all scratched up thats too bad”
For vintage holos maybe yeah. even pack fresh. I can see someone cracking a psa5 and trying to remove all the scratches to upgrade a psa7 and cash in on the price difference.
But on a new release like umbreon 161 or like zard from phantasmal? I have no fears of buying a polished product. My issues 9 times out of 10 are bad centering or corner damage. with the other 10% being bad cut, missing textures, or printer hickeys
