Anal…? Gengar?

I think they’re referring to some believing Gengar’s open mouth on Fusion Strike Vmax looks like an anus

Lol, crazy!

Yup, Gengar, Espeon, and Umbreon are like the holy trinity of 2025 speculative hype at the moment.

Why is Espeon on that list?

Agreed, Espeon isn’t gaining popularity

Man I totally sold my FRLG Gengar too early

I think you might be on to something. Looks like Dragonite has had a massive come up and is closing in on/surpassed Charizard also. Very interesting to see considering the pecking order (as far as price) has been established for 25+ years. Definitely feels as though the ‘new money’ in the hobby tends to avoid Charizard

My dark Dragonite is poor condition and my Gengar is cooked but I think I could sell them now and buy back better condition cards in a few years.

It’s likely they currently think there is greater potential for higher gains outside of the charizard sphere at the moment.

dont forget rayquaza!

I thought this was interesting data. A lot of new collectors use this app and the sample size is pretty large.

If anything, it’s a snapshot into what modern sealed speculators like in swsh in 2025

Note there’s no crown zenith because that data bar would be to the moon

I would like to preface this post saying I am a 5+ year collector/vendor at TCG shows. I love all trading cards and grew up with a passion for Pokemon cards. I am a believer in cards holding serious value as an asset.

That being said, this market is laughable and all the new “investors” deserve to be left holding a bag. When I am looking at basic GX cards on eBay and they are all priced at 200+ dollars graded it’s an obvious sign a crash is ahead. These basic sun and moon cards are not only common, they are easy to grade. Modern Pokemon sealed prices are a joke. I am gainfully employed, own a home and vehicles, and my wife and I are currently financially stable. However I am NOT spending 300+ dollars on a modern booster box. All my effort has now been put into picking up greatly undervalued and truly rare vintage cards.

I love this hobby and am genuinely sad to see this happen. Ultra modern prices are nothing but a scam.

Who cares? Let the people “investing” in modern get burned. These people were not scammed; they just made decisions that were obviously bad.

TBH, I don’t think it even matters that much for the broader market. At this point, the Pokemon card market has a number of sub-markets that are totally distinct from each other. As an analogue, look at comic books and sports cards–80s-90s junk that speculators hoarded got utterly obliterated and remains worthless to the day, while desirable comic books and sports cards with organic collectability have done quite well over the years.

Spammy, but at least you changed the title I suppose. Shouting at people is very convincing.

You realize that a bubble is not a “scam,” right?

I generally agree with the sentiment of the post, but the content we’re getting lately from first-time posters on hot button topics is wild lol
