Love this- 5 of these sales were me. :man_shrugging:t2: I can also say that I purchased two cards on this list in off eBay transactions- and I paid more than your listed price. Nice research Jeremy!

Appreciate the time you put into this. As for the prices, I think current market value is definitely higher for blastoise, ninetales (one was listed for $10k OBO and taken down off eBay yesterday but I can’t tell if it was sold or just removed) & venusaur based on price movement of other cards in the set and their past price relationships to one another, although I know those change. I was very surprised that the seller accepted a best offer that low for the Hitmonchan and thought it would go for closer to $9-10k. Some people think the seller didn’t realize what they could’ve gotten for the card but that’s just speculation. Market value is definitely lower for the machamp and that nidoking price is questionable to me. I’m not sure if there were any recent dragonair sales but that’s always an expensive non holo you could add to the list along with wartortle that just sold for $2k or so I believe.

Just a reminder that posts advertising the listings of banned members/blacklisted sellers are against the rules. We don’t expect everyone to know who these people are, but that’s why the recent discussion was removed.

tl;dr to what was removed: don’t spend ridiculous amounts of money on graded Japanese “The Pokémon Weekly” cards as they all come in a single box with guaranteed pull rates which can be bought new for under $20. A certain seller currently has some auctions up which see individual cards from this box fetching almost $300 and I can almost guarantee you that if you bought one of the boxes for $20 you’d end up with almost identical grades due to the way they’re packaged so well and thick cardstock used.

@pichufan I posted around 5 recent sales from mercari which had all sold between 5-6,000yen (47-56usd) per box and mentioned that most non-tcg cards seem to be increasing in value too.

It may in part be that there is largely a lack of information around non-tcg cards. But I think it also shows that there is a growing curiosity and demand for older non-tcg cards.
I don’t collect/purchase japanese tcg cards. I do buy japanese non-tcg cards though.

So I keep an eye on these things.
I had thought those cards were from 2005 though, going from the bandai products listed here. But the slab from the listing you posted was dated 2004 from memory.

But yeah, cards like the 1997 Meiji promos are getting harder to come by too especially in decent condition. As far as I know, these cards were the first to feature Misty, Brock, Ash, Team Rocket etc (not mine).

The carddass anime collection is much the same.
But anyway, I think non-tcg is fairly tethered to the tcg market. If you find any more of those boxes at the price you mentioned, then it sounds like a pretty good deal at the moment. :sunglasses:

I had replied to you earlier but our posts were removed: all 5 of those Mercari sales happened since I posted here. The highest sale when I posted earlier was for 2,500 JPY. I guess people who saw my post here figured it could be a good money maker.

It would make sense. I’ve seen them go for around 3,000.

Amazon jp seems to clear up the release year ambiguity too. There it is listed as 2005

Hey guys I just wanted to start a discussion talking about everyone’s opinion on what ratio is best for longer term investments I’ve been doing about 70-30 in favor of vintage as they’re the proven cards but I also think there are several modern sets positioned to have some serious long term gains such as burning shadows and shining legends

@somepokemonguy,@jeremypadawer isn’t Chansey a $15-20K card? I was asking around after Leonharts video and I was told it was sold for around that.

There was indeed an eBay sale for $11k earlier this month. It was a good deal by a seller who may not have been privy to recent private market climbs. One also apparently sold privately for $13.5k today.

Yeah leonhart’s values are just really a best guess on his part most of the time. The chansey is closer to the value stated above and same can be said on the Hitmonchan being undersold for around 6.5k, imo that would fetch 9-10k in auction. Looking at the past relationships between card prices and just using you’re pokeknowledge gives you a good idea of prices but obviously it can change over time and depends on how many people are in the market at that point in time. Like magneton has always been cheaper than Hitmonchan and it went for the same price as the Chan’s best offer accepted so that should tell you all you need to know right there lol.

I just pre ordered 20 boxes, do you guys think these boxes will appreciate in value over time? Do you think it will be as big as hidden fates? They seem to be selling out everywhere already, this kind of made me want to invest in these boxes since they will all include a promo Charizard card in every box.

Can Nintendo reprint it? If the answer is yes than best anyone can do is speculate.
