The second you compare Logan Paul to the most prolific rapists/murders you’ve lost the plot.

Still, the point stands…there is a continuum, and people fall somewhere on it. The argument is that if someone falls close enough to the extreme, maybe you don’t want them representing the hobby.
You can either agree with the logic, or suggest that anyone can represent anything and no one should care, but just saying Logan is not even close to the most prolific rapists doesn’t negate the argument at all…

“I don’t want my walls painted black, or even close to it. I don’t even want them painted grey.”
“but grey isn’t black!”

“I don’t want horribly immoral people representing my hobby. A certain someone is immoral enough to be of concern”
“but he isn’t THE WORST.” . . . . . that’s not the point, he’s bad enough to be of concern.

But why even make the comparison if it’s that unhelpful? Just say that you don’t like Logan. You don’t like what he’s done, and you think putting him in the spotlight is bad for the hobby. That’s fine. You’re entitled to your opinion, but you don’t have to bend over backwards to make these shaky arguments to defend yourself.

And likewise that’s a decision everyone has to make for themselves. It gets a bit more complicated for someone whose livelihood depends on public perception, but for a majority of people, it makes more sense to just support and give attention to those you admire and enjoy and just ignore the rest. It’s that simple in this niche community.

Doesn’t hurt to encourage an actual discussion instead of misdirection and people responding with “stfu gtfo.”
It’s way more harmful to encourage or let that kind of bullying fly than it is to engage in a conversation and allow people to learn and grow.

Doesn’t the comparison hold true though? There is nothing wrong with bringing up the most extreme (but still plausible scenario) to help prove a point. The idea is that you might not want certain people representing a hobby. Might seem dumb to you but …it happens all the time. Plenty of athletes are found to be rapists and abusers and then teams distance themselves and fans feel betrayed and want the person “removed” from the hobby. Literally endless examples of rapists who “represent a hobby,” don’t act like it’s some insane idea and an unreasonable comparison.

and if it’s a valid feeling in that scenario, you could move down the line. rapist, abuser, general jerk, unkind, blah blah blah.

How does the comparison hold true? He compared Charles freaking Manson to Logan Paul. Based on that logic, someone can say, “I wouldn’t want Hitler in the hobby, so I don’t want scalpers here, either!”

Except Logan Paul isn’t a rapist. So it’s a terrible comparison.

That’s not the logic at all?
=If there is some level of moral depravity that is “too far”
Then perhaps someone less morally depraved still falls into the category of “too far”

I’m not saying you SHOULD gatekeep anyone, and I’m not saying Logan IS of concern.
I’m not even saying I support that idea, I’m just saying that there is some actual logic to it, and responding with “dumb idea” is really inconsiderate and useless.

Once you reach “reductio ad hitlerum” it’s time to stop. While we understand people want to discuss drama and popular creators to a degree, the negativity and ridiculousness over the last few pages has reached a breaking point.
