The biggest shame of all this is that she’s the only winner here. Although most people see her for what she is: an unqualified, gatekeeping, toxic hypocrite, she’s got everyone in the community talking about her. More notoriety, more exposure, more views = more revenue… it’s like she’s alchemised some fucked up version of older rarer minter = better.

I’ve done about 100 videos for other peoples channels always with the intention of promoting Pokémon and/or our AokiFoundation. All I knew about Logan was he did a box break that was successful. Did I investigate or judge him for doing crazy antics to promote his social media. Didn’t investigate it. Had I seen that China debacle from when he was 21, it still wouldn’t have changed anything. I was taught to never judge anybody based on their worst day…or as the Bible says, lest ye be judged.

Good point but something tells me her “type” of following isn’t a very desirable sort. On IG when they got out of line in my comments I blocked them and honestly feel like I was ridding myself of her riffraff (is that still a word?) To be fair, many of her followers were just fine even in spaces we disagreed. I’m sure that worked both ways.

It’s not just one day. His entire career was built on shock factor and attention whoring on someone else’s expense. I mean, if we hold Frosted Caribou to the same standard, she has without a doubt a smaller track record of bad actions than Logan (her channel used to be just fine and relatively drama-free until 2021), but judging from your comments about her you seem to have made up your mind about her, and it’s not a particularly flattering opinion. So if you’re willing to judge Bou on the comments she made about you (which you absolutely have the right to), why don’t you judge Logan by his previous bad actions that are way more numerous and worse than Bou’s?

On a deeper philosophical/psychological level, I think we are seeing the inevitable results of a major shift in worldview that’s been unfolding over the last few decades. Due to technological innovations, the constant barrage of entertainment, and the rise of postmodern relativism, people are left seeking meaning and fulfillment through means that are artificial and ultimately empty. Personally, I see this at every level from social media to educational policy decisions (I’m a teacher). I think it’s definitely present in Pokemon and affecting society in the following ways:

1). We have shorter attention spans and critical thinking skills, resulting in a tendency to generalize and misrepresent opposing viewpoints rather than carefully understanding them.

2). We are quicker to justify moral outrage, lending itself to divisive in-fighting and mob-mentality while furthering any sense of unifying or foundational beliefs.

3). We have a greater longing for acknowledgement and purpose, creating a superiority complex that often blinds us to the personal motives and intentions of others or admit when we are wrong.

I would encourage everyone to learn to listen (particularly to those you disagree with) and practice empathy. As an English teacher, I emphasize this point as much as possible with my students. Studies have shown that empathy is a skill that can be learned and refined with practice; however, it’s also been steadily declining since the internet’s inception. It’s ironic; we are more connected then ever, but less capable of leaving ourselves and inhabiting another’s world, even if only for a moment.

@ Pokemon Classics you should definitely consider throwing some of these philosophical/psychology-based view points into videos on your channel - even if you just discuss them in the context of how they’ve manifested in the Pokemon community (to keep them somewhat relevant I guess) it’d make for engaging watching/listening. Might be for a more niche crowd but I’d certainly listen! I think a lot of us understand the points you’re making particularly about the importance of empathy, but simply lack the patience to exercise it in certain situations…that, and it’s fun to have a rant once in a while. That said, really enjoyed your video on Gary and the level-headed approach does bring us screeching chimps a bit more back down to earth :wink:

Dude I don’t think you understand how truly awful those multi-level marketing guys are. But I’m happy for you papa. At least they’re treating you well since they see value in what you bring to the table.

How long till this thread overtakes the market thread?

You just described everyone on YouTube. I don’t really understand why you have such beef with him, he collected a few cards and bought a few boxes and broke a couple. Isn’t that what every other Poketuber has done? The only difference here is Logan already had a massive following so by him doing that he brought a lot more people to the hobby. Don’t jump on the “but he made my cards more expensive boo hoo hoo woe is me bandwagon”.

It’s the new efour memes thread so not too much longer

I disagree with that statement. Saying that everyone on Youtube is betting on shock factor and attention whoring on someone else’s expense is not fair to thousands of content creators who don’t choose that path.
As for why I have “beef” with him - that doesn’t really describe it. I just think it’s bad for the hobby that someone like him is representing it to so many people. And that thought shouldn’t be that controversial. If a serial murderer or rapist like Charles Manson or Ted Bundy would have a shot at becoming the face of the hobby, most collectors would probably be against it, simply because they wouldn’t want to be associated with a murderer or rapist. It’s just the level of depravity that is different between a Charles Manson and a Logan Paul. And to you, his depravity might be acceptable. To me, his depravity (e.g. filming dead people for clicks, faking getting shot by a shotgun in front of children, disrespecting everyone on his Tokyo visit) is already enough that I don’t want him to be a major representative of what I love.

@ripguyfawkes,

Cause Logan never attacked me and said I hurt children lol or that I hated Arita double lol. Logan has been a complete respectful gentleman to me, my family, and to the Aoki Foundation. I admit his charity help is the main reason I’d go the extra distance to praise him but that simply is because it’s my biggest priority. Now if he was your Manson or Bundy I’d feel differently for sure but thankfully he’s not lol.

Doesn’t the comparison hold true though? There is nothing wrong with bringing up the most extreme (but still plausible scenario) to help prove a point. The idea is that you might not want certain people representing a hobby. Might seem dumb to you but …it happens all the time. Plenty of athletes are found to be rapists and abusers and then teams distance themselves and fans feel betrayed and want the person “removed” from the hobby. Literally endless examples of rapists who “represent a hobby,” don’t act like it’s some insane idea and an unreasonable comparison.

and if it’s a valid feeling in that scenario, you could move down the line. rapist, abuser, general jerk, unkind, blah blah blah.
