The Content Creator Megathread

Yeah, what do you reckon they did with the throne?

Did you ship it back home?

And why couldnt they get a crown to match?

Haha. No, they kept it.

Talk about ‘uneasy lies the head that wears a crown’…
I’m being a hypocrite by continuing the debate after previously saying people should focus on themselves but fuck it, this is getting ridiculous.

Johnny:
"Therefore, by proxy, he’s a malignant symptom (or a source) of the hype and scalping frenzy that’s pissing off your average Pokémon enthusiast. There’s disdain with Gary calling himself “King” and there’s several raised eyebrows with printing a card with his likeness while sitting in a throne. One of my friends specifically asked, “What did Gary do to gain the respect of the community?”

Where the hell do you start with this? Where were these complaints 10 years ago when Gary was one of the most active people in the hobby? How can he just now be a symptom or source of the ‘hype and scalping frenzy’ when he’s been in this for decades? When he’s been called ‘King Pokémon’ for years? Why wasn’t Gary’s influence or activity an issue for these people 18 months ago?

This is all reminding me of that Green Goblin scene in Spider-Man: “In spite of everything you’ve done for them, eventually they will hate you”.

There’s a real mob-mentality here that mirrors what we see when we spend years elevating people to become idols or icons, but then take savage pleasure in trying to rip them apart because of some misplaced shared ideals. It doesn’t matter how good the person is, what selfless acts they’re performing, what they’ve achieved in the past. What matters now is that we think they’re a part of something we don’t like, they stand for something we don’t stand for, and we have to tear them down for it.

Fuck them, Gary.

Remember kids any Arita publicity is good publicity and that’s the same with actual artists that have talent over business makers whom they have advantage over, from a knowledgeable standpoint as many creatives get contrived, exploited and limited but hey that next masterpiece isn’t going to get FULLY fleshed out without any publicity.

Outside of card owners who specifically looked at the names in the corners it was only them who cared about Arita unfortunately until his name gained serious Western attention, very likely by this card in particular signing them.

Come visit me in NYC Gary!!! But leave the MetaPooh in Nevada :relieved:

Yes and no. Like the garbage that is Reddit and here sometimes finding something to invest in is like looking for needles in a haystack. Believe me I’ve got millions of tabs of music and on average listen to about 12 albums a day but wether if any are collection worthy are 0.01. It’s just an example to metaphor above. Ironically it’s the memes that bring everyone back.

Tbh I find reddit to be the least bad social media platform. I know it has its flaws as well, but I like that there are so many subcommunities (subreddits) that focus on whatever you want to look up

Damn did I miss drama Mondays?

I’m not saying it is wrong, i just dislike the concept of nft as whole (nothing personal). Don’t need to explain anything to me tho.

I attribute this to the impact Bou’s “How did we get here” video had on her viewer base. That video attracted a lot of TCG players unhappy with the price increases and product shortages. It granted her the perfect army to wage against the “PokeRich” and I think she recently realized that. With a drought of new products to open and a stagnant metagame, her content hasn’t exactly been flourishing. What else could she do, besides punching up and becoming relevant again?

If you look through the comments under her tweets, a majority of the comments are from angry, bitter competitive players who have no idea who Gary is. Many of these people tell collectors defending Gary that they aren’t “true fans of the TCG” since collecting is hoarding and the cards aren’t being used to play the game they are made for. I wish I was joking, but these people actually frown upon anyone in this hobby who isn’t a player. They criticize collectors for “gatekeeping” (without any evidence ofc), yet they ACTUALLY gatekeep. They are actual elitists. For many it’s not even about Gary specifically, its this “TCG player vs collector/investor” mentality that Bou has attracted with her aforementioned video and channel goal of creating content “for the players only”. These people, in their anger and desperation for the hobby to return to their version of “normal” (where product is everywhere and cards are only expensive if they are playable), have built Bou to be their idol, their savor. You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone in her comments section respectfully disagreeing with Gary or the few people defending him. Lots of false claims, explicit language and childish insults. It’s all one-sided, too - hardly anyone disagreeing with Bou said so in a nasty or distasteful way.

The ignorance and entitlement of her fanbase is extremely unprofessional and immature, and it reflects on her character when she wages that base against others instead of educating them and calling them out for their behavior. I don’t care how many disclaimers she can fit in her videos to remove legal blame from herself - Bou’s fanbase is harassing multiple people now because of her actions, and she has yet to take any form of personal responsibility for it.

I thought this thread was meant to be more along the lines of sharing/linking fun content and then discussing it. One of the rules is that you cant share your own content, BUT that would make the thread less toxic in my opinion. The whole thread keeps rotating between the same discussion or same people over and over. It would be cool if I could “occasionally” share one of my more unique videos in a spot. Same goes for other creators like @butchdawg32. I see nothing wrong with this and it would keep things fresh.

Most creators do not have 10k subscribers to spread their content, so why cant THIS be the spot to post it rather than make a brand new thread if I want to share something? Thoughts?

The current thread literally bores me… it’s boring. It’s also not sharing creators work effectively since it favors only the most well known content creators.

Can I bring just one Bigfoot card since he lives upstate? I’d like him to autograph it.

People are more than welcome to break up the discussion by posting content they wish to discuss! As Scott alluded to earlier, some things people just want to discuss and you can’t stop them. It’s better to have that discussion in one area rather than having multiple threads on it.

With regards to promoting your own content, it’s just way easier to not allow it. We can’t have people posting every new youtube video they make here. We could limit it, but what’s an appropriate limit? 1 video per week? 1 video per month? Maybe to stop newbies from spamming we make sure you have 50 posts before you can promote your own content. But all of this just makes more rules for people to follow and more work for the unpaid staff team to make sure people are actually following the rules.

There is no prohibition on posting your friends content though. Did Pokemon Classics make a great video? Post it here to give him some love! Maybe he’ll repay the favor someday!

Well here the title could be “frosty carboo thinks Pokémon cards are garbage” lol WHERES the memes on this? Lol
Couldn’t get the audio to work but she’s saying “Bunch of garbage’
