The amount of content that has been pumped out over the last 12 months compared to anything prior in the last 10 years or so has been incredibly interesting.
I wonder how we will view these market analysis videos in particular in the future. Its equally interesting watching what little videos we did have 3+ years ago to now to see how sentiment has shifted, who nailed the trends correctly, how we see the market as a whole and the way its discussed from then to now.
The amount of speculation in many of these videos reminds me very much of Bitcoin videos in the early days (not to say they are the same). Many of the cards, sets, booster boxes, eras (WOTC Vs EX, vs Modern etc) are still relatively untested in validating who is right and wrong as the backlogs are still immense.
I don’t see for example how anyone commenting on Evolutions can in any capacity forecast the future of it as a collectable when the backlog of this set alone is probably 100,000+ cards. Yet many youtubers are being validated as the time horizon of the topics in question are based on todays pricing which we know has only held for perhaps a few months compared to Pokemons current life span of 20+ years, these few months are a blip compared to it. I wonder how badly some of these investment videos will age (or how right they were? who knows).
I also find it fascinating how the pack opening videos have gained so much momentum over the last year in particular, I guess its the same thing as what we did as kids when we opened packs together and if someone pulled a holo the crowd would go crazy. Could this be something that is here to stay for a long time, probably. For me though seeing the sheer volume of packs opened devalues the experience in terms of viewing it, but many would disagree!
Overall there’s 100s of channels out there on youtube right now, many will leave but I think we’ve gained some great content creators and I think over the long term we will have more information then ever on any topic you can think of whether its pricing, market analysis, podcasts, card discussions, talking about the art etc.

I just want to say that I have been watching pack opening videos (whether it was Yugioh or Pokemon) for 10 years now and those channels and videos always got more subs and views compared to their discussion counterparts so that is far from being the new trend on youtube. What the boom has done, however, is made everyone with a camera, packs and a table in their parents basement start opening their packs on video. The sheer amount of packing openings and pack opening channels is mind blowing now. I don’t see pack openings being the most popular videos going away as long as modern product is still being released.

I saw the thumbnail, rolled my eyes, then tried to figure out how to hide notifications from his channel. Doesn’t sounds like I’ve missed anything.

Sometimes that alone can turn me off from watching a video. I get the need for an impression, but the title should do the job most off all.

I remember watching PrimeTimePokemon back in 2009 and that being the reason I got back into Pokemon. I started playing the game instead of collecting though…big mistake

For sure he was a bit odd, but he did some fun openings and I remember he slowly saved around 6k for a 1st edition base box and when he broke it he did not pull a zard I think, but pulled 2 Chanseys. He was sooooo mad to pull 2 chansey and he just did 99 cent auctions on pack fresh cards to recoup some funds.
One day his channel just shut down and it was sad to see it go. If you want to quit the hobby I understand, but I wish he left all his pack openings up. It was a shame for sure!

So basically one of my favorite youtubers of all time was depressed and went afk about 3 years ago and came back like two times for a short while and now he came back again and he made a pokemon video, so cool! It does not have a whole lot to do with the tcg side of things, but I figured I would share it anyways to show that the one and only GradeAunderA is back (for now).
just watch tca gemmint and smpratte, never any hype beast garbage there. There’s probably others but idk them

Yep Crackrockmcaib was awesome. Learned about him because Gemmintpokemon back then used to trade with him on YouTube.
