I found the true bubble test. My local Walmart was cleared out of everything except a few Battle Styles booster packs and a box full of these. Even at the height of demand S&M base and Crimson Invasion packaged together went untouched
Sun and Moon base was a great set. Full art + Hyper rare Solgaleo, Lunala, Umbreon, Espeon and Secret Rare Ultra Ball and Switch.
It also has (although the least expensive) Lillie Full Art.
Digging in to something that’s not their. The whole factor is nostalgia and simply that. No matter the fallacies and schematics. The closer one gets to that nostalgia the more someone is willing to pay. For example Base set ~ Evolutions.
What about scarcity down the line? There’s plenty of expensive items that are pricey due to other reasons than nostalgia in this hobby. IMO buying a case of S&M is a pretty solid investment.
I was a little skeptical when I bought them. I built an AI a while back that tells me what to buy and when. I did a double take when it said S&M and CI. But I have full faith in my AI overlord.
Listen kid, those are not good picks, your AI will never be able to match the years of experience i have in this hobby. I see you have a boulderbadge you must be new around here
@effectspore, totally new. Got back into the hobby last Christmas. Figured I’d need something to do during the pandemic. They may be bad picks. But I was told I was making bad picks when I was buying up evolutions, roaring skies, ancient origins, and others at $100. If I had a nickle for every time I’ve heard experience is no match for AI…
I’m new around here as well, who are you to gatekeep and make ultimate decisions on values for an entire future market? I would ask why you liked your own post but it totally makes sense tbh get a grip the guy can invest in a case of S&M if he wants, who tf are you? Nobody cares about your badges. Sorry to be so negative.
@nuttun, Haha I don’t know, it seems at least half serious, considering this thread was screenshotted in the discord and followed by a bunch of shitposting. Guess they figured the newbies wouldn’t be on discord? I was famous before I even posted! @berrykushbrad, Don’t get negative. This type of response should be exactly what you are looking for. You should be excited to find markets with entrenched “experts” hostile towards new ideas. It means there are ignored advantages. A hostile market is an opportune market. The hobby is really inefficient at pricing anything and you can build a substantial collection as a result.
Side note: I am a collector and not here for the $.
Crimson invasion is 3 1/2 years old
no big chase cards
no super ultra rare cards
obscene amount of product still available in retail and third party
booster boxes still list for $150-180
ETBs still <$60
sorry bud there’s a reason it’s still new stock priced after this long while similar product like Burning Shadows and Cosmic Eclipse have gone up multiple times over their original value. Nobody wanted CI when it was new and nobody wants it now. Will that change in the future? My crystal ball says “ask again later”
That describes half the boxes from B&W and XY at one point before their supply became constrained. Emerging powers, primal clash…
CI is terrible and had a ton of supply, but stayed around retail price during the life of its primary supply. With the primary supply projected to run out in February, it was an easy win to buy sub $100 in January. CI followed the exact same pricing pattern like every box before it. If you are optimizing for gains, it was not the best buy. If you are optimizing for gains while considering risk, it was one of the best buys you could make in January for sealed.
With retraces in singles and the gains on CI, I can trade boxes for vintage set cards and promos at a huge value.
