Team Rocket Promo

I recently uncovered this promo pack for Team Rocket in my parents closet. They believe it was purchased around the release of Team Rocket on QVC. I couldn’t find any info for this promo pack, so I posted to reddit. I was very suprised from the responses in regards to how rare this is and was refferred here from there.

I’ve had a number of people on reddit reach out and ask to purchase, but Id like to do some more research/get other opinions before I give any thoughts to sell. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks!

Would help to upload the photo(s), but did see it on Reddit as well. I am sure someone here will be able to give you some additional information with photos of it, more photos the better.

Found some pics of the strategy guide

Nice first ed pack, Unlikely weighed if them seals aren’t tampered . A pre release Gyarados and no idea what the other thing is. If your after the value I’d say around £400 maybe more if weigh the pack but they’re hard to weigh.

Thank you! I really appreciate the info.

Ive actually recieved 2 offers of over $1.5k on it which promted me to look into it more since I didnt realize it could be worth that much. Is there value to it being a sealed promo like this?

I wouldn’t know the value on it all sealed sorry. I was just valuing it at what I’d pay. £3/500 depending on booster weight, £30 for the Gyarados promo then £20 for the guide.

Definitely an interesting item! Like the prices you received on reddit, the value does not come from the individual parts but from its sealed entirety.

I agree with others that this holds more value as a complete and sealed set than the individual items.

Thanks for sharing this here. I think this is a really cool piece of TCG history, and I haven’t seen anyone with this sealed before. If you do part ways with it eventually, hopefully it can go to someone who will keep it sealed and protected (and pays you well).

Hello and welcome to the fourum!

Could you kindly take a closer picture of the top of the Gyarados card in its card saver? I’d like to see if there is any text on the card saver itself.

Great item!

Do you mean your parents purchased it from QVC around year 2000 or where they purchased it from said that later on?

From my research it’s abnormal that this comes sealed at all, it seems they were meant for the inside of a binder (hence the hole punch holes in all of the copies)

I have a few concerns though..

  • The outer sticky labels are so crisp and white, i’d expect after 25 years they would show some signs of yellowing. (I could be wrong about this though)

  • I’m not sure how much of a common practice it was in the year 2000 to put Pokémon cards inside card savers. Also the top deck issue that included the Team Rocket set included a Dark Charmeleon card, not a Pre-Release Gyarados.

  • Usually TopDeck Magazines advertise the free booster or card that comes with the item too (on the sealed packaging and on the book itself) None of the Card list books i have found advertise anything like that.

It is possible someone at QVC packaged them unofficially to sell on the show though i suppose.

I’ll keep looking into it when i get some more time as i love the Team Rocket set! Specifically QVC, and WOTC Binders to see if i can come up with anything!

Thanks so much! Sorry for the late response (I only made my account for this post, so I haven’t been back on). So this was purchased around 2000, as it was in a sealed envelope that said “QVC” in my parents closet sealed away for all these years. That is likely why the seals stayed so well, although it may have been fine even if it weren’t in the envelope. It’s certainly an interesting mix of items in the bag, especially having the forsight to topload the Gary. I do know they were selling a number of collectibles at the time (see some of the sports card shows on there in the 90s) so I guess it’s not out of the question that QVC packaged it. If you ever found anything else I’d love to see! I still have this in my collection on display. To me, it’s a rare piece of Pokemon History! Thanks for looking into it

Incoming low ballers lol . Throw it up for auction. Someone who appreciates the history and keeping the seals intact will pay a decent dollar.
