The best answer is yes it can matter. In general most people just want the card.
Psa 8 compared to cgc 9.5? Itll be interesting seeing how much compared to $480000 the cgc one goes for which is what the v recent 8 went for.
I think CGC might be a reasonable choice for this sort of card. The Illustrator is one of only a few Pokemon cards with actual cross-category appeal. CGC has cachet among older, established coin/comic collectors that PSA/BGS don’t. So I think there’s actually a valid rationale for using CGC for this card. Not saying it necessarily was the correct choice; just that it’s not an unreasonable choice.
If we were talking about a gem-quality gold star, on the other hand…PSA would be by far the superior choice for maximizing resale value because the audience for gold stars is fully intra-Pokemon.

Im going to speculate this goes into the 7 figures, but not too far. Maybe 1.3m… Also going to speculate the top bidders are comic collectors who unlike some of us, prefer CGC!

Ultimately it’s the illustrator, so who knows! That same psa 8 I think was at 1m on liquid marketplace, at least that is what one of my patreon members told me. Will be fun to see either way!

Imo its worth some more than the eight psa 9s and lots less than the psa 10. $900000 should really get beat. 2nd best graded on the planet is a big deal.
Ehh this copy wouldn’t grade higher than psa 9. So who knows. It could do more. I wouldn’t be surprised either way!

I think itll be a record set at auction. A cgc 9.5 to me is a higher grade than a psa 9.

Just saw it ended… wow, looks like whoever bought it will 100% crack it and send to PSA. dang
I think it is due to the weak 9.5 as well as it is CGC and not PSA.
