So many possibilities for new chase card types:
Lenticulars, raised foil alts/SARs, glow in the dark cards, landscape AR/SAR single cards, Landscape Legend style cards that need 2 to work, 1 of 1 cards, numbered alts xxx/1000
and my most personal wants:
A shiny variant of an ARs/SARs (either same artwork or a new one) in sets that are way harder to pull, a modern Goldstar chase. This can make ARs and SARs feel more commonplace and hopefully a little less desired/cheaper on the singles market while giving the more money or more hardcore collectors a bigger chase.
A Japanese high class collectors focused set like Pokekyun but the big pulls are shiny versions of past Alt arts/SARs. Like imagine a set where you could possibly pull this:

Alt art or more descriptively a fully illustrated art has always been the obvious endgame once BW came out and it still took 11 years before normal cards got their variant in the CHR format.
If I was here for longer than WOTC, I might know when people wanted full arts though. Maybe if other TCGs like Magic started having them.
[actually I just realized that there were LEGEND cards in HGSS too, so even longer for it the transition from special set cards to normal cards]
I’m sure that a decent amount of people might get ‘tired’ but I’d argue then, what is the point of collecting at all? There are 1000 Pokemon and growing and there are 120+ artists and growing. The combinations are endless and will never be complete. You may not like the first or even the first few cards a Pokemon gets.
Numbered cards would be a real cop out to me though. It screams laziness and is the opposite of innovative.
Since the art has now expanded to the whole card, improvements and innovation would be how it is presented. Not sure what raised foil is when the cards are already textured?
I personally also think that if shinies are meant to be chased, a lot of them need a palette rework instead of being tied to some old code that swapped palettes 30 years ago. And even now without using that code, they have things like Charcadet line changing eye colour only.
The second way I can think of would be improving cohesiveness and theming. That more than anything else will ensure collectibility. Lorcana attempted (though not very well) to have their equivalent special art cards themed to a certain style every set, it’s something any TCG can do rather than relying on other presentational gimmicks.
I admittedly don’t understand why they chose to go all-in on AR/SAR of every Pokemon for Gen V and not Gen 2. But it is nice.

@DragonClasher may be able to explain why the Scarlet & Violet game lore and tcg was set up specifically for Unova’s generation, and that these sets will run full circle with its theme while also celebrating Unova’s 15th anniversary (like Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl did for Sinnoh in 2021)

I’d say the SV9a Heat Wave Arena and SV10 The Glory of Team Rocket are the biggest nods to gen 2 as they’re partially based on HeartGold & SoulSilver’s in-game characters (Ethan & Johto Rocket Executives). They must be doing this because they’re not planning a gen-2 only set anytime soon
TPC is slowly giving each successive generation at least one makeover return in the games and TCG (multiple for gen 1 naturally)

- Gen 4 → HeartGold & SoulSilver (gen 2)
- Gen 5 → none
- Gen 6 → Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire (gen 3)

Well SV is entirely built of what Unova thematically is down to Lore/Structuring/Designs etc
Reshiram represents Traditions/The Past and The Dragon of Truth (Fire Type reflects the Past)
Zekrom represents The Future and is the Dragon of Ideals (Electric Typing reflects the Future)
Kyurem represents the Present
First Game with Paradox esque thematics:
Also White Tree Hollow/Black City
Gen 5 introduced the held item being Gems which is a one time use held item for every type that provided a 1.5x boost to that type of move used. Essentially early “Tera” mechanics
The Unova Dex is essentially mainly thematically split by mostly modern concepts or mostly traditional/past concepts.
Volcarona/Scoliopede/Galvantula mirror prehistoric insects design wise.
Klingklang/Vaniluxe/Beheeyem being modernised concepts as examples
Team Plasma being based as Knight Templars and later becoming Pirates in BW2
Also both SV DLCs mirror Truth/Traditions/The Past (Teal Mask) and Ideas/The Future (Indigo Disk)

The Zekrom and Reshiram are not just incredible cards but also great callbacks to their BW Full Arts.
I like Unova and its games (placing third in my ranking after Hoenn/Emerald and Johto/HGSS) so I may be biased but to me those sets could be the best of the SV era. So far I wasn’t the biggest fan of the era (mainly because I really did not like those Tera cards) and just liked a couple of single cards.
