Sun Moon Promo Japanese Mewtwo

Hi E4,

New member here, been collecting for a few years and finally thought I’d post a question.

With the limited release of the SM-P Japanese Mewtwo cards (SM363, SM364), and their high retail values due to their limited number (2400 copies, 300 copies respectively), I just wondered what everyones thoughts were, and if a high graded card would be a valuable asset for a collector.

Each card is retailing for around $400 and $4000 respectively, ungraded. Do you think these cards are worth the hype?

Thanks

2400 still seems like a lot. Lp Ho-Oh has way less and sells raw for about a bit more.

@vehicularmenace , which card is that, if you don’t mind me asking?

Either way if you buy them send them to bgs, modern japanese should grade well. Could fetch a nice sum if they hit pristine grades

L-P Japanese promo lotto Ho-Oh. 2400 still seems like a lot for a card to command $400. There are much older promos that are far more limited that don’t even come close to that price. Those were forgotten with time and value wasn’t realized so much at the time. I guess with more people aware than ever of price and rarity, I guess a 2400 card pop can sustain a $400 price tag.

There were copies of the SR card selling for over 45,000 yen (around $450 USD) when it first hit the secondary market in Japan. As more copies hit the market it dipped to just north of 30,000, and it seems to have settled around 23,000 - 25,000. It is a bit hard to compare this particular card to previous promo releases, as Mewtwo is a more popular Pokemon than Ho oh or Zekrom. It is hard for me to imagine buying the card at its current price tag in Japan as a bad deal.
