This exact listing has appeared on this storage unit auction site (Storage Treasures) several times and the unit is deliberately staged with lots of Pokémon and sports cards items and other crap, but all the boxes/games are fake/resealed.
I looked into buying this unit and the guy wanted $30k cash, but when he sent additional photos you can clearly tell the boxes are damaged and resealed.
Watch out everyone, this guy is in the Reading/Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area.
Since when does the owner of a storage unit sell the storage unit? I thought that storage unit auctions happened when units were abandoned/unpaid for? It seems bizarre to see someone advertise their own storage unit for sale…
One of the main red flags, though, is that there’s modern product in the unit. It tells you that the person has been recently involved and is likely well-aware of the current values. But that’s just one red flag among a gazillion in that listing lol. It’s almost like a parody.
I just want to add here that there can be creases and denting, even some ripping on a box without the plastic seal being torn. Below are two examples of authentic sealed boxes that have been stacked and stored improperly over the years and have compression damage but there aren’t any breaks in the seal:
Boxes with damage on the box but not on the wrapper = normal
Boxes with damaged folds = normal
Boxes with pushed in lids = normal
Boxes with particles under the wrap = normal
Boxes with irregular logo placement = normal
The most suspicious thing about these boxes are how the wraps on some of them (Neo Rev, Aquapolis in particular) look like stretched out grocery bags but the re-heating have tightened (but not un-stretched, think of these like stretchmarks) the fibers in certain odd places. Still, no guarantee or proof of any kind whatsoever about the legitimacy and 99,999999% of collectors, including self-professed experts, would buy these in a heartbeat if they came from a source with enough street cred. Good to spread awareness about scams like these.
Strictly speaking, this is a variation and not something “wrong”, but it depends on the set/print and not seeing it on any of them is almost a dead giveaway since the version with the mark is that much more common.
Unless the storage unit belonged to somebody prominent, and we were 100% sure that they died and had no family, I wouldn’t bid/buy this. Why would anyone sell a neatly arranged storage unit full of well-known, high value sealed product? The seller has Google…
