What an incredible collection thread. It’s funny how seeing users online frequently you obtain this image of what their collection might contain and how they sound based on nothing more than mere words on a forum.
I found reading this thread extremely satisfying and refreshing and to see your collection laid out with so much care you’ve shown me a new side to you as a user and I’m glad I came across this post.

Like last year, the cards remaining for my collection are few and expensive. I had the goal of just two cards in 2024 and that will remain my goal in 2025. Here is my first card of 2025.
The Eevee Gold Stars are special cards, a rare and interesting sub-group, that are difficult to collect. Umbreon and Espeon are likely impossible acquisitions, I do not expect to ever obtain them. I have put black paper in their binder pages where they would go. But I do plan on Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon over time. I started with my favorite one, also the least-expensive one.
Like usual, I bought a suitable slab and cracked it. Into the binder it goes.

Not sure how I missed them, @stagecoach, but I apparently haven’t seen your collection updates for about a year. (As a reminder I did not intend to collect Espeon and Umbreon due to the cost.)
I am at a familiar crossroads. The population of the cards I want is diminishing faster than I can procure them and the cost of the cards is rising faster than I can buy them. I need to examine if it’s even possible to finish this collection or if I will need to once again cut my losses and liquidate out of the category. Old peers will remember this collection began as a cheaper alternative to the WotC 1st Editions I devoted myself to previously. Alas, I’ve yet again painted myself into a corner.
It seems the supply of these cards on eBay has sharply declined. I hope this is the result of less cross-posting with Japanese auction sites by Japanese sellers and I can still find them on Yahoo Japan or Mercari. I’m a bit rusty on my search terms but I’ll be seeing what’s still out there.
Last year I was able to get 1 card and 3 newly documented flip coins. If I can buy a card this year I will likely only be able to afford 012/Blastoise and then everything else only becomes increasingly difficult to procure. I must consider if it’s even worth continuing at this pace.

Happy to see you post here again, but sad to hear the state of the hobby makes it feel as if the walls are closing in. Things have been seemingly ballooning out of control recently, but the upward trend can’t continue into perpetuity. If the cards are seemingly already out of reach at the moment, maybe it would be good to sit out even longer and see if the new eventual floor prices are within your comfort level or not. Also hope things are going well for you.

I went through your original post again and the collection and presentation of them are truly out of this world. It would be amazing to see the last missing pieces there so i’m hoping with time and hopefully the boom prices lowering it can be possible, hopefully all is well
