Hi E4! Many of you are aware that I species collect Slowpoke, Slowbro, and Slowking in all languages. However, something I haven’t shared much is that I have a bunch of mini side collections too, of various artists, species, and sets that spark joy for me.
These side collections aren’t as “completionist” as my Slow binders, but they are a lot of fun for me, so I wanted to start a thread to share them! Some of my side collections are just one or two binder pages, and I rotate out which cards are featured.
To kick things off, here is my first mini collection:
Plusle & Minun

These two are so adorable together, and I love how many of their artworks connect! To assemble this page, I picked three of my favorite connecting artwork sets and then filled in the extra slots with single cards that feature the two together. The card on the bottom right is a Japanese exclusive called Tori’s Feelings.
I’m going to post my mini collections one at a time, so I will be back tomorrow with the next one

Atsuko Nishida
Of all my mini collections, this is one of the pages I spend the most time looking at. Atsuko Nishida’s artwork is some of my favorite in the entire TCG. I love her soft, sweet, airy depiction of Pokemon. It’s difficult for me to limit myself to just two pages of her work! I often rotate out some of the cards here.
A few special cards to highlight: The Dragonite is one of my all-time favorite cards, I was very lucky to recieve it for for E4 Secret Santa this past year thanks to @Dyl
The Dratini and Ekans are just too cute. And the Japanese exclusive Phanpy is adorable. I also really especially love Altaria from a recent trade with @queendrifloon and the Light Arcanine which I finally stopped debating after 2+ years and got myself a copy

Beautiful pages, Nishida is a wonderful artist. Which begs the question, why limit yourself to only two pages?

Thank you! Honestly there are so many artists and species I love, and limiting myself to 1-2 pages each lets me appreciate them all without taking on too many massive projects

Shaymin

I love this little hedge hog! The first page features the normal version, and the other page is for sky forme. My favorite cards are the Kanako Eo illustrations in the center of each page! There are some really great stamped Shaymin promos here, including Korean League, a Traditional chinese set stamp, and the 20th anniversary campaign.

Kanako Eo
Kanako Eo’s art style is so delightful. Her renditions of Pokemon are so cute, I love her use of color and the way she depicts scenes. The centerpiece of my Kanako Eo page is the two Ponytas, which I have positioned facing each other. That shiny Ponyta is such an incredible card! Mine has a crease on the corner, but it’s a perfectly fine binder copy
She also has illustrated some amazing trainers, such as this Roxanne’s Research I got from the one and only @citriina, reigning Piplup champ and a fellow Kanako Eo enjoyer.

I do this with my MTG lands. ONLY 1 binder for the thousands of land arts… helps the pocketbook too.
Great ccollection slowqueen!

Kanako Eo art is so good! I especially like her HGSS trainers (e.g. Fisherman, Twins, Flower Shop Lady). Roseanne’s Research is also a great one. Thanks for sharing!

Kanako Eo is my secret artist collection cause her art is really just so cute! I just love the almost crayon like line art she can do. I’ve kept it cheap so far but the shiny Ponyta really does call for me…
Wonderful binder page!

Pachirisu

Today I would like to appreciate the blue squirrel. In general, I really enjoy a lot of the electric rodent Pokemon, and Pachirisu has some particularly adorable artwork! The one in the middle with the cherry blossoms is my favorite, I also added in a cherry blossom stamp inside the sleeve because I think they go nicely together.
@xileets I totally agree, having limited space definitely helps be more curatorial as opposed to just accumulating an infinite amount of stuff
your lands binder sounds awesome!
@koaster rainbow plusle and minun are great. It’s fun how so many of the artworks connect for those two
@bbobrob Thanks so much! Kanako Eo is great and also has so many great trainers
@Parrotdox I totally get it, I wound up finding my damaged/creased shiny ponyta on Mercari Japan for about 10 bucks so you may have some luck that way

Yukiko Baba
Yukiko Baba’s art is so cool. I first encountered her work because of the Trainer Magazine Slowpoke, Slowbro, and Slowking promo trio, and the Trainer Magazine Volume 15 cover she illustrated.
When I started off my mini collections, I knew I wanted a page of Yukiko Baba artwork. Shortly after, I found out about the Japanese Exclusive Raichu and fell in love! He just looks so polite sitting in a little chair like that. From what I’ve heard, this card has gone up in price, so I’m glad I got a copy when I did. And I love the e-reader Omanyte especially as well. The Shedinja is from my trade with @crindy

Day 7: Ralts, Kirlia, Gardevoir
This whole evolution line is so ethereal and cool. I appreciate how many of their artworks feature cool lighting, nature, flowers, and plants! To be honest, I think Ralts is my fave, an absolutely top tier little guy. My favorite Gardevoir artworks are the ones that feature the entire evolution line, particularly the Radiant Collection full art and the recent Mega Evolution SIR. I wound up getting the SIR in Korean to save my wallet some pain

Sumiyoshi Kizuki
Sumiyoshi Kizuki’s artwork is so wonderful and nostalgic for me. The thick crayon-style lines and the bold colors evoke so much joy. This is another one where it’s hard to narrow down my favorites to just a page, but I have to say that Japanese Exclusive Wartortle is absolutely peak!
I am very lucky to have a signed Slowpoke card, personalized from Sumiyoshi Kizuki herself. This is one of the absolute most special pieces of my collection! When I commissioned her for an original piece of artwork, I wrote her a letter in Japanese. She wrote me a note back in response, which I also had authenticated.

Mew!
Who doesn’t love Mew? Little flying pink baby magical creature. Mew kind of reminds me of a raw chicken, but in a cute way.
I got a lot of these in Korean because they were less expensive, and I like the way Mew’s name looks like a little guy in Korean 뮤 (don’t look too close because they aren’t in great condition either)
It’s so hard to pick a favorite for these, the entire middle row and the Sunset promo are all amazing!
