Skyridge Master Set Adventure/ Jan 11 UPDATE

Hi guys,

A few weeks ago I asked for some advice about starting a Skyridge master set, and I really appreciate all the tips. After thinking it over, I’ve decided to go for it! It’s definitely not an easy ride, also I don’t have the budget to buy everything at once (and honestly, that wouldn’t be fun anyway), so here’s the plan:

I’m starting with the non-holos/reverse holos. I don’t want to grab the expensive cards first because I don’t really like the idea of having a huge binder with just a couple cards in it for ages. I enjoy filling in the gaps with all the cards while I see how the binder grows!

I’ve got a bunch of sealed stuff, so I’ll probably trade some of it for the pricier cards if I find good deals or when I go to events.

I’m aiming for NM copies for the non-holos, and hopefully the reverse holos too.

For the holos, as long as the front looks clean and the back isn’t beat up, I’m good with that.

I ended up selling my PSA 10 Espeon VMAX from FS and used the money to grab supplies and a bunch of pack fresh non-holo cards.

I’ll try to update this post every few weeks or whenever something major happens.

I picked up this binder to match the box colour as well as the sleeves, as I didn’t want to use regular penny sleeves.

Big lot of pack fresh non-holos

Sleeves appreciation

Nov 17 UPDATE

Purchased this small charm for the binder zip, looks pretty good! Also managed to get a few minty reverse holos! Soon I’ll create a sheet to keep track of all the owned cards etc

Dec 09 UPDATE

Super busy month, but managed to grab a few NM reverse holos in a bundle for a decent price, so I’m quite happy about it! Also purchased my first holo. Created a SKYRIDGE SPREADSHEET to keep track of the collection, money spent etc so feel free to take a look! Almost done with the non holos (99% are pack fresh), just missing a few random bits and the Gengar & Umbreon. Quite happy with the progress!

Good luck with the journey! It will certainly be a challenge, but the fact that you have some valuable stuff to sell will make it easier for sure. Skyridge is one of the most beautiful sets in the TCG, I also would like to try for a complete set some day. That is, if it’s still a reachable goal for mere mortals like me lol

Best of luck on your collecting journey. I love the green binder and sleeves. Great choice :green_heart:

Nothing impossible as long as you have money and time. The more of the first you have the less of the second you need.

Love the binder choice, sleeve choice, and the willingness to take on this task!

Keep your eyes peeled for PSA 5-7 holos, especially at card shows. A lot of vintage seems to get harshly graded. I picked up a skyridge magneton H18 holo psa 6 recently at a show, cracked it out, and it looks pack fresh.

Another piece of advice would be to keep some cash ready to pounce for the bigger cards when you spot deals. Would be a shame to miss out on an amazing price for one of the bigger holos because you’re cashed out on non-holo commons/uncommons.

Good luck with the journey, looking forward to seeing the progress!

Wow, your sleeve choice opened a locked memory in my brain. In the mid-2000s, I bought these very bright green holographic sleeves. I thought they were the bee’s knees, and I used them through the early 2010s before sleeves actually started to look good. Nowadays, I use Dragon Shields.

I can’t find them now, but they looked something like this.

Anyway, great start to your master set! I’m looking forward to your updates.

I also used these exact same sleeves when I went to the toy store to play in events once a week! I only had one set of sleeves so I had to peel and resleeve every time I switched decks :joy:

Yeah! Nostalgia hits hard with this set, that’s why I tried to find the most similar sleeves to the holo ones I used to have for yugioh and pokemon hahah

I totally get this sentiment but unless you have a healthy disposable income, I would recommend the big hitters just because you might not be able to afford them at all in the future. I’m so glad I got some of the heavy hitters when I did because they were a fraction of what they are now (and I thought they were expensive then).
