How often do you reheat / activate your silica gel packs in the oven in order to keep your vault clear of humidity?
Probably the best way to answer this since every climate is different is to get a hygrometer. You can check the humidity every couple of days. Once you see it rise you know the silica is no longer able to absorb any more moisture.
There is also silica gel that changes color when it’s time to reactivate it, which I personally like using. It changes from orange when dry to green when wet.
I found gel packets to be really meh when it comes to working or doing anything useful. Ultimately that lead to me just buying a relatively cheap dehumidifier for the closet i keep my cards in, as well as a meter like @nickofturl, recommended and thats seemed to work the best thus far. My gf just helped to install one which i can check straight from my phone (think it was on amazon or something like that) so now all i need to do is check the app and dumb the humidifier bucket every 4 days or so which is a lot more reliable than packets alone in my opinion.
I just bought a dehumidifier myself from Amazon. Curious to know which hygrometer you got that you can check from your phone. That’s a great idea.
@nickofturl its called “govee home” or something like that lol. I still need some time with it to see how it all goes, but so far its been pretty good! Not sure the price either (as i didnt buy it myself) but shouldnt be too bad.
As for dehumidifier, just be careful with ones on amazon and i only say this because i bought one and the thing didnt pick up any water at all. Then a few weeks later i went off to Lowes (hardware store, if not from US) and got a much larger one and since its been doing a much better job. As long as you got a good reputable brand you should be good to go!
@dizzle24 I just got the Govee today and it works great! Put it in my safe and it’s cool to access it from my phone to make sure all the levels are perfect. Thanks for sharing!
@nickofturl awesome, im glad you like it and np!!
