Pelican Case Storage

Hey guys,

I just bought a small Pelican case to store my PSA 9 Charizard. After doing some more research, I also just bought the Pelican silica gel thing to go with it for humidity protection. I’m really paranoid about humidity damage at this point.

Wondering if anybody has experience storing their cards with Pelican cases or similar? How often do you open your case to replace/dry out the silica?

Thanks

Hey,
I’ve actually been running lots of experiments with Pelican related products for a few weeks now and I’ve had lots of success with moisture control.

I would suggest investing in one of these as well: www.amazon.com/ThermoPro-TP50-Digital-Thermometer-Temperature/dp/B01H1R0K68/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?gclid=Cj0KCQjwyerpBRD9ARIsAH-ITn_DrTxCu-TrZ-2D0sdAinF9-0QMABhsvt3GUXPIs-sAp8r7qkWYYV4aAjuAEALw_wcB&hvadid=241922322624&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9005849&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t2&hvqmt=e&hvrand=8265208758344615252&hvtargid=aud-647006051489%3Akwd-1989858941&hydadcr=24661_10400816&keywords=humidity+meter&qid=1564201455&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&smid=A39VTLCPMNRL3Z
That will help tell you the relative humidity of everything inside the case. Ideally you want less than 40% humidity in the case. With the use of the pelican case plus silica gel I’ve recorded RH as low as 13%. The lower the number the less moisture is in the case.

For your first month of ownership, test the case once a week. Open it, see your RH and then let it air out for 20 mins. Replace the products and inspect in another week. If you are getting results you like, no need to do anything further. If the RH is too high, you can add more silica gel.

After a month, recharge your silica gel and then put everything back inside. Your case should be good to go indefinitely, but you should probably take a look at least once a month. If your not having issues a month apart you can push back to every 3 or 6. Whatever works for you.

If you have additional questions about this topic, feel free to PM me as well.

Thanks - that’s really helpful! Will definitely look into buying one of those as well

Could you link which pelican case you bought?

Sure - this is the one I bought. It’s literally just to store one card in my case.

How many cards total would fit in this thing?

Yeah, I’m actually looking at storing my whole collection in a pelican 1510. Primarily due to being able to easily move it, if necessary, and for it being waterproof. If anyone has any other tips for storage, I’d really like to hear them!

I am using this one from Thermo pro, it has another remote sensor that you can put in the pelican case (mine is just in the cabinet).
