How would that look like in terms of an uncut sheet? Like would the back be shifted down by a bit? That would mean that the very top cards of the uncut sheet would have hella unusual backs.
Can you point out the difference from a normal card? I cannot tell the difference but I’ve also been told I’m blind so there’s a possibility I’m just an idiot
Does this only happen on First Edition and Shadowless Dragonairs? Sorry for all the questions, I’m an error enthusiast so I try to collect all errors.
Mjisaacs
yes, just those print runs. The error had to have happened at the tail end of the 1st edition print run and at the beginning of the shadowless print run.
Green Switch Kakuna from Evolutions - a common error.
@quuador you will like this. A different colored Pikachu (left)! It’s a slight different shade of purple, and you can also see the leaves are a different green. Any idea how rare this is? I compared it to 3 PIkachus from Evolutions, and the one on the left of the image was different looking.
Although I can certainly see the left one is lighter of color than the one on the right, I don’t see that much difference in actual purple shade tbh.
If we look at the four version I have, the bottom two are obviously very different from each other and the non-error version. As for the top two, I see one of them as lila-purple (left) and one as light purple (right):
In you image the purple shade looks similar, although the one on the left is lighter overal. These differences happen quite a lot, and are also very noticeable in the Base Set:
If we ignore some of the obvious errors, like the sun-bleached and Albino-bordered ones, we can still see a lot of different shades of yellow in the cards. Your two XY Evolutions Pikachus are in my eyes similarly different, where the yellow of the card as well as the purple is lighter on the left one in comparison to the right one.
But if I saw something incorrectly or misunderstood something, let me know. Still thanks for sharing and the tag!
As for your question about off-centered cards being considered as errors: in my opinion not. I see miscuts (or off-centered cards with visible alignment dot on either the front and/or back) as errors, but off-centered cards as just bad printing qualities. Overall miscuts are usually worth more than the regular versions to the right collector (i.e. miscut collectors or enthusiastics), but off-centered cards are usually worth less due to the lower grade you would get and without the same appeal to miscut collectors. Just my 2c though.
I noticed the slight differences in color too – imo the color difference is just a matter of how much ink the card ended up getting during the process.
I don’t think he’s a troll. The greenish Switch is a legit error (yellow appearing as greenish happened quite a lot in XY Evolutions, like this Devolution Spray and this Charizard), and I do see a difference in light of the overall card on the Pikachus. I personally just didn’t see much of an actual color difference. The shade (light/dark) is definitely different, but the hue (color appearance) is quite the same.
Also, his question about whether off-centered cards can be deemed errors is a fair question as well. So I’m not sure why you thought he’s a troll to begin with…
And lol, on Instagram and the pkmntcgcollections-reddit I’ve had multiple people say the same about “I’m gonna check my cards.”
I think the Blue and Maroon Pikachus are pretty obvious when you pull them, imo. They are clearly different from the original Base Set Pikachu, so even if you don’t have more than one XY Evolution Pikachu, I think most people would suspect something is off when they pull a blue or maroon background one. Unless they are absolutely new to the Pokémon TCG, which is also a possibility of course.
I’m thought to be a troll because I made a thread asking to grade my cards which had 4 pages of comments, mostly me trying to convince the group it was a 10 PSA. Now I can accept that not is all perfect. And then I posted a pic of a damaged Vulpix asking for it to be graded (in a joking manner) xD XD Just some misunderstandings…
Interestingly, all the Switch trainers I have all are the green error variety. That is probably because all 3 were from a theme deck, therefore they were the same print run. I’m currently seeking the yellow Switch trainer, lol.
About the Pikachu, it must just be faded, right?
And I’m not sure how many actual yellow-Kakuna Switches there are. Devolution Spray for greenish vs yellow print seems to be about 50-50. Charizard there are more yellow flames than green. Maybe the Switch is more greenish than yellow.
This just based on the copies I’ve seen, though. Maybe all three are 50-50 and I just saw more of one than the other. But I’m sure there probably are at least some yellow Switch out there.
Can anyone shed any light into this card? Recieved it yesterday in a bulk lot and had no idea it was coming. Looks similar to the partial holo snorlax posted earlier in this thread but with much less holo… Anyone seen this on celebi before?
