Should I go to the Arita signing at MegaCon Live?!

Hi! :waving_hand: Just wondering if anyone is going to MegaCon Live in London this month for the Arita signing? I somehow managed to score a ticket but am now having second thoughts about going as it’s quite a long (and expensive!) train journey from Newcastle and I’m a bit anxious about travelling down to London and going to a con by myself.

I’ve got a raw base set Charizard that I never in a million years thought I’d have the chance to get signed so I know I’ll kick myself if I don’t go!

If anyone has been before or is planning on going on 24th it would be great to hear from you! And if anyone is able to advise on what the queue times are like that would be super helpful as I have no idea what time to book my return train ticket for!

My reference point is the Gala event in Germany which happened a couple of years back, so this may or may not be relevant. But this was a 2 day event with Arita signing on both days. I had tickets for just one day for the event itself and mentioned I was interested in the signing event. Later I was contacted by Arita’s team to book a time slot for the signing. I took a relatively early morning timeslot and queued up when it was the scheduled time.

This signing event was well managed so I had a queue time of max 30-40mins before I could sign my card and that was it. I was free to leave after that but the Gala event official day closure was 6pm. It was also the time when the actual place hosting this event closed its doors for the day. Hopefully the London event is managed similarly and you can hopefully get an idea on what to expect and also book your ride back home.

Cheers!

I flew down from Inverness especially for the last one. It was worth it for me. I did both days to get two Raichus signed and found things to do in the late afternoons away from the event.

I met a fellow Raichu collector but beyond that it was solo. I had the same anxiety type feelings as I often do for solo trips but it was very worth it.

You won’t get much time with him and there’s a fair bit of waiting but who knpws if he’ll be back in the UK again? I am amazed we got this second visit so soon

This is really helpful - thank you!

Honestly, if you ever have the chance to meet an artist and get an autograph, I’d say go for it. You never know when, or if you’ll get another opportunity. Artists don’t always return, and sometimes they can decide to stop doing signings altogether (look at Midori Harada, Suwama Chiaki, and some of the other artists who recently stopped signing autographs).

It would be a very memorable experience even though the whole meet and greet is only a few minutes. I think you’d regret missing out far more than going.

I had no idea this was happening…

You should go, there’s plenty of other fun things to do in London if the rest of the event doesn’t interest you. I believe there’s a Wes Anderson exhibition at the Design Museum!

Me either!

I was planning to take my family to Megacon Birmingham in March anyways, London is a bit of a long drive so i never even considered it. I can’t believe i missed him being in the UK again! I have never been to a signing before :pikacry:

@Porygon95

I say go for it! You may not get the opportunity again. I would love to go but it is unfortunately sold out now. London can be a bit daunting but cons are a very friendly place. I am sure it will be worth it.

No, you’ve got to go and get that off your bucket list. Those tickets are expensive/ difficult to get

But… don’t wanna be rude… but why spoil a base set Charaz by having it defaced? Just saying…

It’s a binder card and maybe a 5 at a push, but the front is very clean. I’d rather get a card like that signed than a PSA 9/10. I can always buy another base Charizard if I decide I want one in the future - same can’t be said for a signed one! That’s my logic anyway :man_shrugging:

Thanks for the advice and sorry you missed out on a ticket. You’re absolutely right in what you say - I’d definitely regret it if I didn’t go.
