Now the last three bids were obviously from fake accounts. However, two people with plenty of history have also bid over the 1k mark. Does this mean a new price point has been set? Or will we have to wait for this to be relisted before it’s official?
The last one of these sold for $660
I’ve never heard of Probstein shill bidding. Looks like fake accounts to drive up the price. A 1st ed. Dark Blastoise PSA 10 sold for 14.8k because of two fake accounts going back and forth. No way that is legit shill bidding.
I would disregard these prices entirely. It is not uncommon for people to put up a bid they doubt they will have to pay just because they want to ensure an auction win. As always, the auction winner pays the second highest price someone bid. No need to overreact or dig into bid semantics here.
@chavycat , you own the arcanine market. Show them who’s boss lol
How many do you personally own?
Edit: After noticing this was probostein, I do find it interesting that they recently auctioned a PSA 10 first ed fossil dragonite that also went for a really oddly high price. I would ignore this price as it is simply too high I think.
Def wasn’t Probstein. They make too much money for this type of thing. I was thinking maybe it was the person who consigned with them. Either way, it looks like two legitimate bids were over 1k and that’s pretty cool
Man this is a faster jump than 1st ed. Fossil Dragonite PSA 10 prices! lol. You can double or triple your money in 1 month on Ebay with a few slick handed flippers who manipulate Ebay sold listings. These past few are obvious but sometimes it is equally as fake but small enough of an increase that we all just accept it without raising an eyebrow. We really have to find other ways to buy and sell outside of Ebay, this sole dependency on Ebay “last one sold listing” to determine market value is the reason why greedy, dishonest people are using it to artificially inflate prices. Sometimes it is a fake shill bid with no intention to buy, or flippers selling to each other splitting fees and doing backdoor f and f refunds because they have more of the same card to sell, and other times it’s an actual sucker who just got in the hobby and has no idea what these items sold for over the past few months.
There are so many other collectibles that only use Ebay as a tiny instrument to help determine market value in a mix of other reliable sales. Pokemon is so dependent on Ebay, I hope one day we can move away from that crutch a bit but it looks like the hobby still needs some more time to mature as a real player in collectibles.
