Set of the Fortnight #35 - EX Ruby & Sapphire

Grew up with ex-sets, definitely peak nostalgia. As I’ve grown older, I’m no longer a huge fan of ex’s, especially the one’s with the e-border from the earlier sets. But I think some of tbe holos and non-holos are the most beautiful ever made.

Just to add on to what has already been said the rares and Holo rares are some of the best in this set, growing up with diamond and pearl I never really saw these sets in there prime yet by trading I was able to get quite a few of these, the blaziken in particular brings back such fond memories

I remember saving up to buy two packs of these as a kid and was disappointed that I didn’t get a charizard. I actually ended up pulling a sneasel ex and only when I got back into collecting realised how lucky I was

This set is definitely a bit more memorable for me as it is the first one I’ve (nearly) completed, at least as far as holos and ex’s. People seem to diss on the exs from this set but I quite like them. Also, cant believe almost no one mentioned the swampert card; its artwork is the best of the set hands down. This was a really fun set to complete considering how cheap it was and has some pretty strong cards despite its lack of popularity imo.

That’s probably about what it’s worth now lol. I have a complete NM master set (reverses, promos, everything) and all said and done it was probably like $600 max. The reverses are still worth shit, the exs are still like $15 each besides Mewtwo, and the holos are like $10 each. It’s a crazy cheap set. Sandstorm and Dragon are, too (although those definitely cost me more). Crazy that Skyridge, released literally the month before Ruby & Sapphire, is like a $20k master set while Ruby & Sapphire is like a $600 master set. Not going to lie, though, Ruby & Sapphire is definitely more boring than the subsequent sets – still totally worth it, though.

I love this set. The reverse foils are the most vibrant in the first four ex sets. The holos in this set are A+. I love how the three starter final evolutions were illustrated by three different artists and each have so much character.
