I’ve watched MTG from afar for a long time so I do admit I don’t know too much about it, but I haven’t seen that many high end cards aside from the Beta white border set and some of the trophies. I guess I just haven’t seen as much on the high end side XD;

Nothing specific with concentrated information on hand, but I guess you could eBay MTG singles and arrange high to low.

Some cards from even the newer sets in foil go for crazy amounts.

It’s not like Pokémon where trophy cards and high end promos/Charizards make up the valuable card market. Their big numbers come from older stuff and some sealed product.

I’m actually really enjoying collecting specific MTG cards, the artwork is insane!

Yup, MTG is crazy expensive and prices keep on climbing, I purchased my Black Lotus (Beta) for $4,000-ish back in 2006 and now they’re up to almost $10,000.

Want to hear a heartbreaking reality? They were $30 back in 1994.

Pokemon can’t ever be Magic because magic has similar volume now but started with extremely small print runs. We have always had large print runs.

If Pokémon started with print runs as small as those in magic, I suspect the numbers would be similar or even favor pokemon because of its ubiquity.

So far the Academy cards are selling in the hundreds, even graded. So for now you’ll be fine.

It varies per card, the less amount that are on the market the higher the price, plus I think certain artwork is valued more than some others.

I have a lot of early MTG but never saw any Beta with white borders? The 3rd series, Revised, did have white borders though.

Alpha - Black Boarders
Beta - Black Boarders
Unlimited - White Boarders
Revised - White Boarders (No Power Nine and some other broken cards were also not reprinted)
