Let’s say if PSA were to change the way they incapsulated booster packs, to something more visually appealing and they even started to grade booster boxes and blisters. Do you think we’d see less vintage product being opened? Would you personally want PSA to grade your vintage packs and boxes?
I don’t think it would effect the amount of product being opened but I think they would get a lot more people sending in boosters to be graded. This is the only reason I do not get my sealed packs graded, I’d rather display them nicely myself.
Yep the way PSA is handling packs right now is terrifying. I’d never give my precious boosters to them. For now there doesn’t seem to be a huge interest in minuscule condition variations for boosters like we see it for cards. PSA grading/authentication for packs might get more important as soon as (convincingly) resealed packs become a bigger thing.
There is definitely a market for PSA packs whether many like them or not. I can see both sides of the coin.
As for boxes and blisters I do not think any would happen. The only box I would see someone wanting to authenticate and grade is 1st ed base set box, as it did not have the WOTC logos on the seal, and both TCA Gaming and PokeRev have been scammed before by buying what they thought were authentic sealed 1st ed boxes.
Blisters are already hard to fake, and it’s not that easy to replicate the same blister design even if you have high definition scans of the packaging, so no need to grade those.
Even though they destroy the packs currently I don’t think that is the biggest deterrent at the moment. It’s the time. Who the hell wants to wait 100 business days AND get a destroyed pack back?
I could see them grading sleeved boosters but not blisters. I could not get them to grade anything that had a mounted glue application due to the adhesive have a tendency to come loose.
