Scan-Tastic Spectacular (WotC e-Reader pack) — documentation / scarcity question

I’ve been digging into some late-era Wizards of the Coast Pokémon items and came across something that I don’t see discussed much here: the “Scan-Tastic Spectacular” e-Reader pack (Ho-Oh / Rapidash).

From what I can gather, this seems to sit in a strange category — part promotional insert, part e-Reader integration piece, and released very close to the end of WotC’s involvement with Pokémon.

A few things I haven’t been able to find clear answers on:

• Does an have any information on print run or distribution method?

• Were these tied to a specific event, magazine, or retail channel?

• Any sense of how often sealed examples actually surface today?

• Have any sealed copies been graded (or attempted), and if so, how were they handled?

It feels like one of those in-between products that doesn’t fall cleanly into “Black Star promo” or standard set categorization, which might explain the lack of documentation.

I’m mainly interested from a historical/archival standpoint — especially given how much attention Expedition / Aquapolis / Skyridge have gotten over time.

If anyone here has any knowledge regarding distribution, or even anecdotal info to help provide some context I’d appreciate it. Even small details would help build a clearer picture of where this fits in the broader WotC timeline

I do not have any answers to your questions, but I wanted to add another question someone else may answer. How else were the Rapidash and Ho-oh promos distributed without the “Pokemon Center NY” stamp? From my experience, these cards with the stamp seem a lot more common than without.

good question. Does anyone know if the cards with the stamps on them were distributed in sealed packages like the one pictured above?
