There were only a few who wanted everything so I ended up deciding not to sell. There were enough high offers on individual items that I did not have a problem parting with, to sell out some of those. The box collection and the singles in sets were my biggest reason for trying to part all at once. Those will not be broken up and I will continue to add on to them. I have recently started in on the MTG Alpha set and PSA sealed pack collection. They were going to be one of the throws in for the buyer.
I fit everything you see in the video, other than the 20th anniversary sealed product, in a single small closet (roughly 3.5 x 6 ft)
It did start out as documentation, then I decided to throw a price on it. Not counting the 20th anniversary product, I maybe have $25k invested in everything there. The interest in these particular items is way better than anything a bank could offer. The majority of everything there was acquired within the last 5 years.
I can only imagine what a collector like Gary or many of you on here, who have been around since the beginning has. I was 9 when the game came to the USA. I did not have more than the basic kid collection until I started selling in 2008. I still remember seeing those sales for Neo era booster boxes for as low at $36 on ebay. My first base set box was $100 on ebay.
It is so bizarre to me hearing that these old boxes sold for that little less than 10 years ago. Absolutely insane when you look at the value of them right now.
In 2009 when I was a freshman in high school I bought a 1st edition fossil and jungle box for less than $100 each. It blew my mind they were going for so little. I think the market had some serious catching up to do in the last 10 years and it’s finally caught up. Prices are still relatively low when you think about it. Base boxes are going for just $1500. Think about it. That’s the set that started it all and it’s only $1500. PSA 9 unl Charizards are only $130-$150. My point is in 10 years we’ll be looking at 2017’s prices and think they are insane.
It’s all relative man. You’ll drive yourself insane thinking about. Goddamn I do wish I kept those boxes sealed…
That was the low end for Pokemon, people were just looking to unload, I dont think anyone could have imagined it getting this big again. Almost as big as base Set.
I was the same age, 9. I still remember EVERYONE was selling the cards, you would see them at gas stations even shoe stores. It was even crazier than last year’s release of Pokemon Go.
I actually remember going into a 7-Eleven as a kid on my way to see a movie and buying two packs of Neo Destiny, crazy. It still surprises me that Best Buy sells Pokemon cards. Only $3.99 compared to the standard $4.19 that everywhere else charges now not counting Toys R Us.
It’s a real shame how much 1 pack costs now. I remember the $1.99 price point being consistent at my local KB toys from 1999-2003 I think when Nintendo started printing them they went up but I can’t really remember. Any old timey collectors wanna chime in?
