why go to the level of using a wizard wrap but forget to reseal the packs inside. He should just return it if bought via ebay.

Yeah seriously @crios711, but yeah such a bummer. Such a bummer. Dishonesty is the worst thing on this planet. The plague of our existences.

Yeah this is awful. I suspect that with the boxes soaring to astronomical prices, this sort of behavior is only going to become more common.

On the flip side, I can see this also making sellers nervous. Consider the opposite scenario: suppose a scammer tries to claim that you sent them a resealed box, when in fact it was real, genuine. I’m not too confident that eBay would support the seller in that case…

As someone with a sealed WOTC box, this makes me feel uneasy. I’m excited to see prices reach these levels, but the higher they get the more worried I am about dealing with scams when it does come time for me to sell. If this becomes a bigger problem I could see some would-be sellers deciding to just open the box and grade the singles, and completely avoid the problem altogether. That too would be sad for the hobby, since it would take away sealed product from the market.

@squirtle1000 The sealed product won’t leave. At a certain point when their historic importance transcends the ability to keep opening, the rest will remain sealed for history. But it will quickly get to the point where people will just sell them in person. I for one would not hesitate for a second to fly across the country to make 25 thousand dollars. No question.

Eventually there will be a box break with “distressed contents” if it hasn’t already happened.

This is really it. Sell in person or use some type of third party middleman/broker. That can confirm. But even that has risk.

I would also not hesitate to fly to make a transaction happen.

There is a video on YouTube where a guy cracks a psa graded pack… and it was an opened pack filled with played condition cards. No rare/holo if I remember.

That was crazy scary to me lol

That is apples to oranges, we are talking about reusing a wizard wrapper or tampered with box vs a pack that was previously resealed, sent to psa and then graded and cracked.

I want to see a black light video next to believe we are dealing with tampered or resealed box. I’m more inclined to believe distresed contents, especially with the number of base sent printed. YOu are bound to have a factory error here and there.

That was me, it was a $300 PSA 9 1st Edition Base Set pack I cracked. Funny how times have changed!

On this topic, the logos are incorrect and look too big/square. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a 3rd party manufactured wrap. There’s surely a “market” for people to counterfeit a seal like this. Just look at the video games- happens all the time and that’s expert opinions + 3rd party authentication becomes increasingly important as the years go on.

Yeah for sure, I’m just pointing out another scary example of how tampered “sealed product” floats around on the market.

I think people assume when they buy a box/pack graded or not that really looks legit, feels legit, that it’s legit.

Lol that’s wild! Did you ever reach out to PSA?

This is something that always steered me away from sealed product (not that I have money like that anyway). I’d say I’m fairly knowledgeable on a lot of stuff in this hobby, yet without having a legit box in my possession and being able to carefully analyze, it would be pretty difficult to know a box has been resealed. Hell, even Rusty got scammed by a fake box and the guy literally does this for a living.

Imagine someone with limited knowledge (Logan Paul for instance) who doesn’t handle these boxes for a living, spending 10s-100s of thousands on boxes that could be resealed. And as time goes on, resealed boxes are going to get more and more convincing. I’m actually shocked this isn’t talked about more, especially by Youtubers and bigger sealed collectors who always preach that sealed is the best investment. Investing 10s of thousands of dollars into something that could very easily be worth little to nothing is a scary thought to me.

Yeah I agree this looks like a new fake wrap rather than a reseal

Is this confirmed a fake wrap? Sad to see stuff like this happening but not surprising in the least

It is such a shame how much more common this is getting.

I used to really enjoy collecting pack art sets and was up to 9 art sets of WOTC and Ex series. My goal had been a full ex series set. Now you have to get from a box break or someone you know well to purchase and there is too much risk, not to mention extremely difficult to find certain sets. Even someone you completely trust could accidentally sell you resealed product without having realized themselves it was resealed when they first purchased it.

reputation is becoming more and more important

Imagine a 300k or 400k bad box break. Sounds like an LP youtube stunt in the making. Provenance is becoming important. Have seen the fake base set video floating around on IG with Wotc shrink wrap that looked pretty good.

They gave me a nice grading voucher, the seller refunded me, and the seller handled the rest with PSA. I sent the pack + label back to them.
