After watching ZnG’s video on the easiest ways to make money in Pokemon. I want to talk about my experience on cracking and the sentiment buy the card not the grade. With higher end cards, a grade jump is usually hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars.
I have cracked 15 or so slabs and regraded, 12 had bumps and 3 grades stayed the same. This has worked exceptionally well with PSA cross to CGC, but has worked vice versa. But that being said it depends on the individual card.
The model of high conviction → high reward, buying the card not the grade. I would like to end off one of my latest cracks. It has common silver holo edging on the front but otherwise it is a very strong card. What do you guys think.
Paid $2,330.00, mostly 8.5. I crossed to PSA because I wanted the 9s. Majority crossed to 9. Mewtwo hit 10 and Snorlax got 8 - those alone cover the cost.
From examples shown throughout the internet, I ultimately feel its too complex to have a set rule for it, but there are plenty of examples of cards that could cross or regrade higher/lower. If you wanna risk it, go for it, but its not like every cgc X will become a psa X and vice versa.
This is definitely possible. I’ve had PSA 8 cracked out and regraded to PSA 10. Big money there considering 8s sell for less than raw a lot of the time.
Multiple PSA 8 new cert shadowless holos to BGS 9
PSA 9 shadowless blastoise to BGS 9.5 (roughly 3x value bump)
Multiple foreign language base holos in PSA 8 to BGS 9s
I have however also lost a fair few times…
PSA 9 shadowless to BGS 9 (blastoise, zapdos, Magneton) none with a grade reduction, all were BGS 9++too so very close to the 9.5 grade - mainly losing grading fees in these circumstances.
Worst L was trying to cross a CGC 10 pristine base alakazam three times to BGS for a pristine 10 attempt. Came back a BGS 9.5 10-10-9.5-9.5 was pretty bummed as it is SO clean and spent 300$ in grading feels.
