Hi
Just bought a card that is not a very commond card in this grade, as it is POP 1.
Wonder what value is, and would it be smart to send it to Beckett to regrade it, good chance for Black Label?
Hi

I wouldn’t risk the black label lottery by destroying a forever pop 1 label
I agree with eeveeteam. If you end up at an event where Beckett is present, you have them do a review. If it would hit at least a BGS gold 10, they crack it out and will evaluate if it’s a gold 10 or a BL 10. If it wouldn’t hit a BGS 10 to begin with, they leave it in the case, but will still charge the evaluation fee. But even at that point, hitting a BL feels like a dartboard type thing that I wouldn’t want to risk.
Personally I prefer the perfect 10 over the black label
In contrast to everyone above, I honestly don’t see the CGC Perfect grade aging well. It’s more obsolete than special.
That said, if you cross it I would put more money on a Pristine outcome than a BL outcome if I was betting.
So basically just follow your heart I guess lol
It’s nearly impossible to predict whether or not a card will hit a black label as has been discussed many times on this forum, so unfortunately no one can really give you a good read on that (although I suspect your chances are better than, say, a CGC/PSA 9, or less than quad 10s on the subgrades, for example).
That said, depending on your end goal, I would say go for it. If you just like Black Labels or are trying to maximize profit in a sale, it doesn’t hurt to try I suppose, especially on a not particularly expensive card. I would just cage expectations and be prepared to not receive a Black Label because it really does seem pretty hard to predict when they will occur, even on a card with all 10 subgrades. In terms of market value, it seems with most Black Labels the value immediately jumps to 5-10x (or more) what recent PSA 10 sales are (which is insane to me, but to each their own). If you are more concerned with having a Pop 1 slab (which will never change since their Perfect designation is now gone) then I would just keep what you have.
All of that said…if it was me, I would try it. But I don’t particularly care about CGC labels nor Black Labels, it would solely be just for experimenting and wouldn’t be a big hit on the wallet.
Only 4 in the BGS pop report, but also only 375 graded total so tiny sample size. As you know, if you cracked out a BL, most of those cards wouldn’t even get BL again so it really is just roulette. That being said, you probably have an above average chance of it crossing, although what percentage that is is anyone’s guess.
I assume you’re asking for a potential flip on the Black Label. If it was graded before CGC became lenient with their Perfect 10s (i.e. graded much more harshly), you might have a better chance than most Aerodactyl Vs graded today
You could submit it to BGS in the case for crossover and set 10 as the minimum grade. I think in the notes you can put “only cross if black label” or something like this and they’re likely to do just as you request and send your card back to you if they deem it’s not worthy of a black label after examining through the case.
I agree with others. Black Label is a now thing that may not age. PSA 10 is SOLID. I would cross to PSA before reaching for a black label. Yet just my opinion here
Don’t listen to me, love to gamble lmao.
I would of PSA it to get a 10 but if you want it to be rare I doubt it be a black label. Just keep it as a CGC blue label Perfect.
