Reddit discovers "Card Cleaning"

Yeah, they do grade with BGS a lot compared to PSA, cheaper and they give out free 9s to cleaned cards.
I suggest to stay away from new certs BGS slabs sold by italian sellers.
I stopped purchasing BGS slabs with new certs, only purchasing old certs, I don’t want cleaned cards in my collection.

You know what’s even more funny? Some even tried to deny they were cleaning cards in the past, even though it was obvious, claiming only a cotton bud imbued with water was used to remove dirt and the card wasn’t cleaned with anything else.
Sure, a cotton bud imbued with water can definitely remove printlines and fix holos…

Just like the “scratch 'n sniff” cards of yonder years

But yes, it’s very apparent!

Cleaning a card with a lightly damp q tip should be for the purpose of removing light surface dirt. But I think the line gets crossed when polish is introduced :joy:

Just use acetone. Everyone knows that’s the true way to remove imperfections lol

The sad thing is that most people buying slabs probably have a “cleaned” card in their collection. Just not worth thinking about honestly and NONE of the companies want to “find” anything. Can you imagine how many payouts PSA would have if they could identify the cards that were cleaned but graded still from those that were not. It’s at a point where it may not be worth even thinking about. Collect old certs or just enjoy the cards for what they are at this point. I have 2xxx certs that have scratches but are 9’s and now probably have 9’s that uncleared would have been 7’s soooo what does it all mean?

It means that for the 30th anniversary, TPC has announced a collaboration with Hasbro/WOTC to reprint all the WOTC sets to celebrate where it all began.

With original galaxy and cosmos holofoil coming to an LGS/Walmart/Pokemon Center near you.

Does this card’s holo surface look wiped with some sort of chemical or water residue?

Really hard to tell with just the 1 picture. I’m surprise that card even got a 9 with that much corner whitening. That leads me to believe the surface was perfect for it to still get a 9. This definitely seems like something the community needs to test itself to be able to figure out what the tells are of polishing holos.

I will never buy a new cert ex psa 10

I see the wiping

It’s probably on the plastic slab

Conveniently, the marks are only visible in the holo part ;).

When I discovered that car dealerships were cleaning used cars, I was furious. They use chemicals on my personal vehicle. Who knows what that will do to it? That’s why I always insist they leave it as a dirty “pure” car. I wouldn’t want anyone else to devalue its worth.

It is pretty striking that it is limited just to the holo. This is also the scan from PSA so there’s no reason for PSA to have wiped anything on the case.

I had no interest in buying this card before it was posted here, but if I did I’d just wait for another copy.

I was a car detailer at a local dealership many years back. We would use special spray paint to cover up carpet stains. We did this when the dealership wanted the car on the lot quick and didn’t give us the proper time to properly clean the car. Typically the paint would hold up for a little while but would eventually fade and reveal the stains.

Kind of reminds of this card cleaning shit. People aren’t cleaning cards to enjoy, they are doing it to get that quick 10 and flip.

I was browsing through the PWCC recent sold listings and found these.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but they look more like the Mudkip posted in this thread and not like Additional Ink Errors.

To me those look more like missing ink errors. Lapras especially, but I don’t see the same streak marks that was in the mudkip above.

Not sure what classifies it as extra or insufficient ink though. I only dabble in errors when somebody plops one In my lap
