Hi everyone! I was looking through my childhood cards and found a few Slowpokes from the fossil collection and one of them seems to be different from the others. You can see the extra bushy looking grass in the picture. Is this a real card? I tried to look it up and read about possible printing errors but this is very noticeable. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this? The card itself isn’t in great condition, I’m just curious.
Since its over the art border, I would say this was painted after print, especially if the brush strokes have texture to them.
No texture, but I see your point about being printed over the boarder.
Yea, confident this was a childhood art project
The way it carefully tries to stay within the art frame, avoiding slowpoke and matching the grass is interesting. Seems like a little kid art project
You’re keeping it, right? Right?
Probably. I can only speak for myself (and I would have never drawn on a card), but I can’t put it past any other kids!
If I were you, I’d probably try to gently clean it and see if it comes off. The way it overlaps the borders and what not just doesn’t make sense for something that usually comes out of the printer.
Good idea! I’ll give that a try, thanks!
i would keep it as it is. This card is well loved and no cleaning will make it a 10. I wouldn’t destroy its history. Just my 2 cent.
That’s a nice way to think about it!
If you try, please tell us about the result.
EDIT: It looks like stamped with a sponge or something like that.
It doesn’t look terrible as is, but I would probably try and clean it off of the gold border so it looks clean, it would give it a straight edge and not look like somebody painted on it with a sponge lol
LOL it does look like it’s painted with a sponge.
Lol! But it’s weird to me that (in person at least) it doesn’t look like the ink is any different than the ink of the card. It’s not raised, it’s not indented. I agree, I’ll start with the border. Do you know how to clean cards btw?
I typically just put a very very small dab of water on my shirt and then use the edge of the moist part to gently wipe. The cards have a layer of clearcoat on them.
Another option is hit it with a black light and see if it appears to be a foreign substance. See how it reacts.
Qtip with a small amount of water to remove dirt and large particles, don’t let the moisture hit the side of the card because it is unsealed
Keep it as it is…? Totally agree. Even if its only worth $2, its unique. One of a kind!
This looks like Bob Ross’ slowpoke. Painting over the borders was just a happy accident!
